Some say performance was over by 1972 but this 1974 Chevrolet Corvette convertible suggests otherwise. Packing its numbers-matching 454 with plenty of grunt, loads of factory options like T-tops, A/C, and power windows, and a timeless color combination that will never go out of style, this Corvette proves that big performance was definitely part of the package in 1974. While white may not be as exciting as Bright Yellow or Mille Miglia Red, you can't argue with... the clean, understated good looks of this Corvette. At some point in its past, the bodywork was restored to a good standard, with decent gaps and surface prep that makes the white really pop and emphasize the Corvette's seductive shape. Perfect it is not, and some imperfections can be seen up close, but this C3 sure looks good going down the road. Given that this is a rather rare piece with its big block powerplant, they decided against too much customization (aside from the '75 rear bumper) and instead returned it to factory spec, and the results are probably better than new in many ways. Details like the chrome rear-exit exhaust tips give it a crisp, fresh look that looks great pulling away, and if onlookers are paying attention, they might just notice the small '454' badges on the hood. Add in the T-tops and this is an all-weather cruiser. Of course, nothing goes with white like a black leather bucket seat interior, and the upholstery in this car is in excellent condition with original components throughout, although the door panels, carpets, and dash pad do show a little age. Code 404 Black compliments the white bodywork with an upscale look that's more interesting than Saddle and a lot easier to handle when the dirt gets in. The gauges are in great condition showing only slight signs of aging, and the carpets are protected by a set of matching carpeted floor mats. Power windows are always useful in a Corvette, and this car also features a quick-shifting automatic transmission, cold R134a A/C, an AM/FM stereo radio, and a ready-to-squeeze 3-spoke steering wheel. Power comes from the original, numbers-matching LS4 454 cubic inch V8. With 270 horsepower on tap, it's not a screamer, but the low-end grunt is still impressive today. Dressed like a stocker, it's got a correct cowl induction air cleaner, black spark plug wires, and Chevy Orange paint on the block and valve covers. Tidy and clean, it's perfect for a Corvette you're going to drive and show on weekends, and there's simply nothing as reliable (or as fun) as a big block in a Corvette. It's backed by a heavy-duty TH400 3-speed automatic driving the stock Corvette rear end, which has highway-friendly gears inside that make this Corvette an easy cruiser that never seems to work very hard. The floors are extremely solid with lots of new parts on the suspension and the dual exhaust system sounds amazing with a great big block snarl. The brakes were recently serviced and are now confidence-inspiring, and it rolls on a set of always-handsome Rally wheels and BFGoodrich white letter performance radials. If you haven't experienced the pure awesomeness that is a Corvette, I highly recommend getting into the game with this lovely Classic White C3.
