History:
The car is basically the way it was purchased from the original owner on May 20, 1987. The car is UNRESTORED. The car was always garage kept by the original owner, maintained by a local mechanic and was never subject to any neglect. After the car was purchased from the original owner, since the car was in such excellent original unrestored condition, it was decided than rather restore the Corvair back to original showroom condition, it was thought best to just to perform the repairs that were necessary. The car was then completely detailed to enhance the original unrestored condition.
Upon purchase of the Corvair by the current owner, a year long process began to bring the car to show car standards which included but were not limited to:
Upon Completion of the Above Processes, the Corvair was trailered to many local and national shows including but not limited to the following CORSA (Corvair Society of America) Events:
Upon completion of the 1991 CORSA National Convention, the Corvair was 'retired' from the show circuit. It is now only entered in local events and is very rarely driven to preserve its originally.
Over the last few years the following items have been replaced to keep the car running well and road-worthy:
· Complete Exhaust System
· Battery
· Right-Rear Wheel Cylinder
· (6) R44F Spark Plugs & Complete Spark Plug Wire Set
· Distributor Cap & Rotor
· Points & Condenser
· (2) Original Style Stone Fuel Filters
· Carburetor Small & Large Inlet Gaskets
· Engine Compartment Fuel Lines and Clips
· Carburetor Base Gaskets and Insulators
Please note, when an original part was replaced, most of the original parts were kept. Some of the parts include the complete exhaust system and spark plug wires. The original spare tire was even kept. These parts along with a surplus of other parts are also included in the sale of the car.
Known Issues with the Corvair:
Please note, apparently the previous owner must of had some sort of front-end collision. The front fenders, front trunk panel and trunk lid have been repaired and/or replaced and repainted. The front of the trunk floor shows signs of straitening but does not seem to have been replaced. The trunk compartment was refinished. The driver side rear quarter panel seems to have had a very minor repair and has been spot painted. A very small area on the passenger door has been spot painted also. Other than these noted areas, the remainder of the paint appears to be original. I would consider the quality of these repairs to be average and please remember that these repairs were done sometime between 1966 and 1987 when I purchased the car.
There is also a area under the front driver's side floor that is showing signs of surface rust. This is showing on the undercoating that was applied when I purchased the car. At a minimum, I would suggest cleaning the area and applying POR-15. It would also be best to remove the rubber mat and clean and apply the POR-15 from the passenger compartment also. I have not done that because I wanted to show the area rather than having it look like I was hiding it. If the car is not sold I will be applying the POR-15.
Finally, in my opinion, this car is a car that you would add to an antique car display. This is not a car that should be driven because of its extremely low mileage. This cars (2) biggest assets are its low mileage and its original unrestored condition.
