Please read this first - The wheels and tires shown in the pictures are off my other Chevelle, and I only installed them because they look so perfect on this car. If the winning bidder is interested I would sell all four for $1200 (the car comes with a set of good rollers that hold air).
Description - Up for auction is a 1970 Chevelle project car that has been sitting since the 1990s in an enclosed car trailer. This was a decent running and driving car that was purchased as a long-term project back in the day. The engine and trans were pulled, the paint was stripped and the car was primed to prepare for bodywork. Something happened, and the car was put away in the trailer, and sadly the owner passed away a few years ago before he could get back to restoring the car.
I bought the Chevelle for my son and I to restore as a LS conversion, but he fell in love with a ’68 Camaro so I guess we’re doing it instead.
This is a good car to build – it was never hot-rodded or cut up, just driven. Originally it was Astro Blue with a blue cloth interior, with a 307/powerglide, 10-bolt rear, and power steering, minimal options. Engine and transmission are long gone and not included in this auction. The interior is almost all there, even the dome light lens, but the front armrests are MIA. It has your typical barn car mouse smell and will need to be completely gone through.
The body is pretty straight and all the panels look original. The doors close like new. It has Chevelle rust in all the Chevelle places – assume every panel will need work – but it’s all very fixable as you can see from the pictures. The front fenders and inners are too rough to save, and not worth the effort, but I think you could get away with patches on everything else if you had the patience. The car is very solid in the usual rear window channel area which tells me it has been in covered storage for a long time.
The car was undercoated with a heavy oil/tar substance from new, and it still shows on the underbody. There is a small area on the frame, in an accessible area at the base of the cowl on the passenger side, that will need a simple repair. I think the undercoating saved the rest of it.
I have some extra parts that come with the Chevelle. The stainless front and rear window trim is there and in great condition. I have the door and fender upper bodyline Malibu trim which is also pretty nice. Also included is the original driveshaft, original alternator, fan shroud, column shift trans linkage, and a nice big block SS396 radiator support to replace the original that has some rusty areas. I know for certain that the windshield wiper arms, rear side markers, door handles, and locks are missing.
Lastly, I have a clear Michigan title in my name.
