1948 Chevy Truck216 cid Inline Six4 speed ManualDrivetrain original!Fantastic Project!
Looking for that classic truck project that won't take forever to get off the ground? Here you go! This '48 Chevy is lot driveable as is now! The right guy could probably have this running down the highway in a weekend.
This '48 has had a respray in blue about five years ago. It looks presentable, but is driver quality. This truck is amazingly solid for a '48. The last ownere, a friend of mine, just sold his home and shop. His new home does not have a shop or barn, so he was forced to sell this diamond in the rough. This is a barn find of sorts.
The truck is running pretty much all the original equipment. The 216 starts really well! It's 6 volt with the floor starter. Pull the choke all the way out, pull the throttle button a bit, and she starts right up! This unit runs and drives and stops just fine around my acreage. I have not, however, taken it on the highway. The tires are weather-checked (may be original?) and probably should all be upgraded for safety's sake. This would need to be trailered home. But it will drive up on a trailer with no problem.
Wipers work. Horn works. Headlights work. Tail lights are missing, but the wiring for them is present. Add-on turn signals light up when activated at the steering wheel, but they do not flash. (new flasher needed?) Needle on speedometer has dropped off. I don't believe the speedo cable is hooked up. Dash gauges all seem to need replacing or attention. Gas gauge goes straight to full all the time when ignition is on. Someone started building a flatbed on the back, but it needs more work. Driver's window (flat glass) is cracked. Seat needs to be redone. (not much in the way of padding left in the old springs--just a seat cover draped over the bare springs) I see some minimal floor rust, but it's not bad at all for a '48. Radio doesn't appear to work, but I didn't try too hard to get it to work. Comes with a clean and clear title. Fun project here, folks! What's left to do is easy! Please only bid on this classic if you are truly interested and have the money to purchase it now. Buyers with feedback of 5 or below, please contact me before bidding so that I can verify your good business intentions. Failure to do so may cause your bid to be canceled. Enjoy the auction!
