By the time the '65 Corvette was released to the buying public, the car had already been declared a modern classic! The '63 started the legend that continues to this day. But back then, sports car enthusiasts were clamoring for the new Sting Ray! And the '65's did not disappoint! There were many changes to be had this year. Such as 4-wheel disc brakes as standard equipment for the first time in a American production car! The mighty big block also made its debut in '65. It was 396 cubic inches (one year only in this size, as the 427 replaced it in '66) and 425hp! And the last year for mechanical fuel injection on the 327. So, you can see that the engineers at Chevy were quite busy back then developing and refining Corvette!
There were no less than 6 engine choices available for the Corvette in '65! All of them good, some great and some awesome! One of the awesome picks was the L76 327 with 365hp. This was the highest hp, carbureted small block and was just under the top 375hp fuel injected engine in performance. It was equipped with mechanical lifters, a big 'ol Holley carb and could be had with K66 Transistorized Ignition! This was a high revving torque. monster and the wise choice for those in the know. And one of those who did, was the original owner of the '65 presented here. The gentleman was in the market for a "sporty" car when he walked into Lyman Slack Chevrolet back in June of '65 and spotted this beauty on the showroom floor. It was love at first sight and he proceeded to make the purchase and drive her home. He kept the car until '69 when an expanding family necessitated the need for something larger. The car had remained in OR. until '07, when it was sold to its new owner in AZ. So, it's always resided in the West. As a result, the frame is in pristine condition. It was so nice, that when the previous owner wanted to spruce it up, he decided against a frame off restoration. It didn't need it! Instead, the car was treated to a new paint job in the original Ermine White, new interior, the #'s matching engine was given the once over, soft top, new tires, etc. The result is a stunning Sting Ray Convertible in a classic color combination that runs and drives as good as it looks! Options include Telescoping steering column, am/fm radio, white wall tires. We feel that the 365's are the next "up and comer's" of the mid years. Accompanying documentation includes the original Owner's Kit, Protect-O-Plate, restoration receipts and complete owner history! Stock #5830
