This 1937 Chevrolet Master Deluxe Coupe is a beautiful example of the art deco styling of the late 1930’s. This car has a steel body, steel doors, and steel front fenders, with fiberglass rear fenders and headlight buckets. The two-tone paint job fits the style and era of the car (Toyota Black and Range Rover Keswick Green), with a thin cream-colored pinstripe accent. The chrome American Racing wheels give the car a slightly aggressive look. Full original bumpers and bumper guards protect the car, and really set off the polished aluminum grill. The cowl vent operates smoothly, as do all the windows.
The Coupe retains the original frame, with a Heidt’s Mustang II front end. The power brakes use 11” disks front and rear. Driving the rear is a 10-bolt differential with a chromed cover. A dual full-flow exhaust with twin mufflers tuck under the car and give it a great sound.
The engine is a small block Chevy 350 with a turbo 350 transmission. The engine has a:
The engine bay shines! A new transmission pan gasket and internal transmission oil filter were recently installed. The automatic transmission is controlled with a Lokar shifter.
The interior of the Coupe was redone 2 years ago, with:
The roof is upholstered in the same material as the doors, in such a way as the original supports for the more traditional headliner are visible. The wood seen at the overhead light is the original piece placed there in 1937 (typically hidden by the headliner). To be clear, this car does not have a typical headliner – instead dynamat was applied directly to the steel roof for sound deadening and insulation, and embossed vinyl applied directly to the dynamat. It really looks cool in person. The steering wheel tilts. The three vents in the dashboard are real but non-functional; I had always intended to add A/C but never got around to it. Sure makes it easy for the next owner! And 3-point seatbelts have been installed for the driver and passenger.
The front LED headlights light up the road like a modern car. The rear lights are LED as well and include an LED 3rd brake light.
The trunk is unfinished, and is partially occupied by a custom fuel cell.
Overall, the car is in good shape. The chrome is good all around, but shows some signs of its age. The interior looks great. The chrome interior window garnish moldings really set the interior off. The exterior paint is reasonably good all around, with a few imperfections that could be addressed - I always thought I would, but once I started driving it I seemed to forget that it needed anything. The engine starts easily and runs strong and cool. Engine oil and transmission oil were changed earlier this year. As is typical for this model, the windshield wipers do not work so I don’t drive it in the rain! Front and rear brake discs, calipers, and pads were replaced about 500 miles ago at the same time as I added the chromed power assist master cylinder. Tires are 5 years old with about 800 miles on them.
I purchased this Coupe 5 years ago and drove it 1000 miles home. You can buy it today and drive it home with no worries.
Please contact me if you have any questions or want to inspect the car before you bid (Michael @ 301.651.9446). The car is sold as-is.
