It’s no secret that Chevrolet builds some of the most celebrated trucks on the planet. The second generation of Chevrolet’s C/K pickup might just be one of the best trucks ever created. Stylish, timeless and usually armed with plenty of power, these Chevys inspire a cult like following and provide one of the most enjoyable ownership experiences on the planet. This Jet Black C10 is an amazing classic that, thanks to a 350 cubic inch GM Performance Parts Small Block, a professionally upgraded suspension and thoroughly massaged aesthetics, is ready for years of endless cruising. Want to park a killer piece of Americana in your garage for less than HALF the price of a ground-up build? Check out this slick Action Line Chevy!
BODYWORK/TRIM
As far as styling goes, few vehicles have aged better than late ‘60s and early ‘70s Chevrolets. In fact, toeing the line between rock-solid and refined, the Action Line C/K is probably one of the most attractive trucks ever built. This C10, a very solid canvas that was ready to reflect some smooth finished paint and body work, benefitted from a detailed, body-on restoration which wrapped a striking coat of Jett Black 2-stage PPG into a multi-blocked rust free body. At the front of the truck, a brand new grille with CHEVROLET emblazoned in large letters and the familiar blue bowtie hangs above as a sorta hood ornament, amber parking lamps and headlights. At the sides of that grille, a wet looking profile centers chrome door handles and traditional squared mirrors between bold “C/10” emblems and bright marker lamps. Behind the rear sliding window treatment, sits a nearly brand new Rugged Liner.
A set of fresh stainless skid strips with requisite oak wood planks come with the vehicle still in their wrapping from the factory, should the new owner opt for the gentleman’s truck attire. And at the back of that bed, a chromed in Chevrolet emblem adorns the tailgate with a chrome bumper and traditional taillights.
I would rate the overall finish on the truck as a strong 9.3 out of 10. The paint was applied roughly six to seven years ago and was done with great attention to detail. It’s a sturdy PPG Two-Stage that will hold up for many years to come, thanks to the rigorous effort in blocking the body to near perfection and color-sanding the black finish completely flat.
A magnet has been placed on every ounce of this vehicle looking for bondo, none was found anywhere. These panels all look completely original and are extremely straight. Take a look at the shut-line pictures toward the end of the body pictures and you will see how nicely everything lines up at the doors, tailgate and hood. Underside of door picture shows zero rust.
The Chrome is very good shape, shiny, not perfect, would likely rate it at an 8.5 out of 10.
Imperfections: The paint and body would approach the 10 mark were it brand new, but unfortunately there are two minor surface rust spots in the typical rear area of the front fenders. I placed a dime next to the spots on both side so you can see how small they are. I hesitated to take a little sand paper and “nib” it off and then fill in with some touch-up.
The vehicle was also bumped “slightly” in the front bumper on the driver side right in the corner. No damage to the bumper except it is pushed back slightly and put a small impression in the valance directly behind the bumper. It also managed to put a very small crease in the fender, leaving behind a 6” hairline crack in the paint (see pictures: at the end of the body pictures there will be a picture of one of the wheels, the next two pictures show the small imperfections from the bump to the front fender). It’s hard to see from five feet away and is barely noticeable in the grand scheme of the presentation, but it is there and the perfectionist in me wants to fix it, but the owner selling it wants it to go like it is. It’s probably a $500-$800 fix from a really good body shop, depending on where you live. It’s also just fine like it is if you just are using this as a nice driver. Again, look at the pictures and you hardly notice it.
The Black & Yellow CA Plates do not come with the car but could be purchased separate if you are a CA buyer. They are correct for a 1969 vehicle.
ENGINE
Take a look under the truck’s broad hood and you’ll find the 350 starts right up, runs smooth with gobs of power. The truck is now sporting a brand new $500 Holley 650 cfm 4175 Series 4-Barrel with electric choke and Accel Electronic Ignition. And cooling comes courtesy of a beefy brand new $400 Aluminum Radiator. Aesthetically, the chromed valve covers and other accessories look right at home in this neatly finished engine bay. Check out the power brake booster and all the nice goodies under the hood. The Automatic Transmission shifts crisp and smooth, as it should after a recent complete rebuild.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Naturally, that clean, road-ready mill precedes a clean, road-ready chassis. Everything starts with a sturdy, factory-spec suspension that was fully rebuilt during the truck’s restoration. Modern power steering makes parking easy and turns a cinch. Stops are provided by power-assisted drums. And power meets the pavement through a set of custom aluminum wheels mated to a brand new set of Firestone Destination Tires for a nice quiet freeway ride.
The Undercarriage is clean and tight with a brand new exhaust system featuring Magnaflow Mufflers and side-angled chrome-tipped tail pipes. There is absolutely no rust or holes anywhere in the undercarriage, truck bed or frame. The front-end was rebuilt during restoration as well as the entire brake package. Coil-overs were added up frontThe car sounds terrific, with a nice subdued rumble.
INTERIOR
When you pop this pickup’s doors, you’ll find a comfortable cockpit that, in traditional truck fashion, features conservative Black/White vinyl. Seating is provided by factory bench seating that are wrapped in black with a two white stripes following the design off the hood treatment. The seat has been completely rebuilt, providing great support and ultimate comfort. Top dead center, a brand new color-keyed dash hangs above the modern, direct-fit RetroSound AM/FM Audio with i-Pod connectivity. The sound package is completed with a great set of Polk Speakers hung at the side kick panels. The perfect amount of sound for a small cabin area.
Under that seat, fade-free carpet anchors bowtie-branded floor mats between newly installed chromed sill plates, a new stainless-trimmed accelerator, brake & emergency brake pedals. At the sides of that carpet, restored color-keyed doors with brand new traditional chrome handles. From the driver seat, the view consists of a brand new Bresse Instrument Cluster ($895) with retro instrumentation that monitors speed, rpm’s, temperature, battery output, oil pressure and time. A black tilt column topped by a three-spoke brushed stainless and wood steering wheel connect the driver to the front wheels, accenting the retro-cool look of the overall interior. The entire interior I would rate at a 9.8, it’s all basically brand new.
Without a doubt this is one of the cleanest, nicest restorations I have encountered in a very long time. The car starts up immediately, does not smoke and runs like a swiss watch. The fit and finish is exceptional, the ride quality is superb. I have been a concour judge at many venues here in Southern CA and have been involved in all types of restoration for the past 20 years. This is a really nice #2 Show/Driver type of vehicle that will be a lot of fun for the new buyer. The car would rate a #1 if not for the minor bump to the front bumper. There are only a couple of small things to get this show ready. I would not hesitate to get in this truck and drive it cross country.
Clean enough to show, comfortable enough to drive and powerful enough to put a smile on your face, this wonderful C10 Long Bed Pickup offers a little something for every kind of enthusiast. If you’re ready to experience the muscle car era from a different perspective, don’t miss the chance to own this ’69 C10 Action Line Chevy!
I am helping a friend sell this beautiful truck and it is available for viewing and test drive if you are in the Bellevue WA area.
