1979 Z-28 great original example
I bought this car a couple years ago as a father-son project. I have restoration experience and had a few Camaros in my past. I found an unmolested car with some rust, but a good frame. It runs good and can be driven. A good foundation.
We started by cleaning and painting the trunk. Then moved to the floor pans. All rust was cut out of the floor and new panels welded in place. I primed it and applied LizardSkin Sound Control. Then installed a new carpet with mass backing (I wanted a quiet car). I removed, cleaned, flushed, and painted the fuel tank. It doesn’t seem like much, but it took almost two years just to get that done.So as these things often go, his interest waned, the budget was short, and time limited. So I am hoping someone else will finish it.
The car has 114,600 miles (judging from condition, I assume it is 100k).It has a 350 engine with original 4-barrel carb. It has all AC equipment, but it is not operational. Appears all original under the hood. It has a TH350 automatic transmission. I can’t give you any history on either, but it does start and run well. There is no smoke at start-up, or after warm-up. The power windows, heater, and all lights work. The heater fan only works on high.
The body does have rust in the bottom of the doors, fenders, and in front of rear wheels. All normal locations with panels available. I have a new trunk lid for it still in the box. The T-tops don’t even leak. The interior is original, so it has some fading, cracked dash and just needs a refresh to be show. However, it can be cleaned up and used as-is just fine.
It has the optional aluminum turbine wheels with BFG T/A radials. The tires have plenty of tread, but they are weather cracked pretty bad. I recommend a trailer for transport.
