Condition

Marina Blue. To me, it is the PERFECT color for a Chevelle. This particular car wears the color beautifully, with a finish that is older, and still shows very well today.

It has marks and blemishes from normal use, as you would expect, and does have a few spots where the paint has blistered as well.
This is NOT a “10 Footer”, but maybe a “3 Footer”, and it is NOT a $10,000 paint job, but a cleanly done local body shop finish that still turns heads and is driver quality, and more than suitable for Sunday car shows and trips to into town.

It has an ample amount of clear on it, and you could wet sand and buff the car again and make it show even nicer. It has tiny stone chips, a touched-up spot or two, little tiny hairline scratches, and other signs of normal wear from driving it fairly often over the last few years, but it is still a VERY good-looking machine, as you can see from the photos below.

The body is good, solid steel, and I can take my 4”X4” felt covered magnet over the entire car and it sticks like glue. No beer can repairs, bondo panels, or chicken wire in this machine!

The trunk is solid and original, and the trunk pan shows well, with the spare tire and jack in the proper location, and solid metal throughout. It is missing the drain hole rubber plug.

Trunk seam, rear valence panel, and rubber trim are in great condition.

The trim on the car is in GOOD to EXCELLENT condition all the way around the exterior. A lot of the trim parts and bright work are brand new items installed just a few years ago, and everything still shows wonderfully, as you can see in the 150 EXTRA-LARGE photos below.

Correct Super Sport and SS396 badging looks fantastic on the car.

The side rocker trim looks good, but the black paint in the grooves has a few tiny areas where it has chipped due to protecting the rockers from debris.

The glass on the car is mostly original, and shows very well all around, and the windshield is a new addition just a year ago. Side glass front and rear is in good condition, and the windows go up and down with ease on new regulators and fuzzies. Vent windows operate as they should, and rubber trim on them has taken on a haze for some reason. It is not dry or brittle, just a little bit hazy.

The hood is a real SS unit that was fit to the car, and looks wonderful, and has just a handful of marks and blemishes from being driven. All are detailed in the 150 photos below.

The car rides on OEM 15X7 Ralley wheels with tri-bar caps and trim rings, and they are all in exceptional condition. Tires are REDLINE units, and they are only about 5,000 miles old with no signs of damage or unusual wear.

Overall, the exterior of the car is a solid 7.0 out of 10.0, with just normal use blemishes and marks from being driven and time. What you see in the pictures is what will land in your driveway.
Inside the car, almost everything was recently replaced or refurbished to make it look as good as the exterior.

Door panels, kick panels, side panels, and pillar fillers all look very good and show no sign of damage.

Front STRATO bucket seats look fantastic, as does the rear bench.
Front seat railing was modified to allow 4” more setback for larger/taller drivers.

All of the seats have the factory seat belts with them, for safety.
The dash pad looks new, and the dash itself shows wonderfully with just a little bit of normal patina and wear showing.

Factory fuel gauge and speedometer work as they should, but the clock does not, and the odometer does not.

A set of SUNPRO gauges mounted under the dash monitors vitals like WATER TEMP, OIL PRESSURE, and VOLTAGE.

A PYLE AM/FM/USB/MP3 w/ CARD READER head unit fits in the factory surround neatly, and provides a fantastic sound playing through the multiple speakers in the cabin.

Heat and defrost panel controls work and provide vent and heating functionality.

A correct center console with functional tachometer sets between the buckets, and it shows well and provides a spot for the HURST shifter with white ball to reside. Lid is attached and functional, but shows marks from being used.

The carpet in the car is in very good condition, with no tears, damage, or discoloration.

The headliner is in good condition, and shows light signs of age in spots.

Visors look like new, and function as they should.

All of the seals, weather strip, and interior trim shows very good, as do the door handles and window rollers inside the car.

The vent window metal trim at the front leading edge of the doors shows light patina and wear from normal use.

Overall, the interior of the car is a solid 7.5 out of 10.0.

The chassis on the car is the original frame, which was cleaned and painted before being reassembled with all new suspension components, bushings, control arms, sway bars, springs, and hardware. Even though it was done a few years ago, the undercarriage still looks fantastic, thanks to indoor climate controlled storage, and dry Florida winter cruising seasons. Pressure wash it and wipe it down when you get it home, and that’s about all she needs.

All new body mounts were installed a year or so ago, with new hardware. Shocks are bit too soft for my taste, but are functional.

Power brakes were all-new from the pads to the lines when the restoration was completed, and they still look and stop great. The car does not pull under braking, it does not have excessive fade, and it does not have undue pedal modulation.

At the time of the build, it was also treated to a new power brake booster, and new hardware, all of which looks and functions wonderfully today.

The fuel tank was removed, media blasted, cleaned, and painted before being reinstalled with new hardware, fuel pump, filter, and lines.

A 10-Bolt GM rear was rebuilt with new seals and mounted in place with new hardware and a custom balanced driveshaft connecting it to the Saginaw 4-Speed manual transmission with Muncie shift knob.

A Saginaw ball is also included and new in the bag.

Gearing is 3.73 according to the prior owner, and it has plenty of snap off the line to impress your friends with tire-smoking shenanigans if you’d like.

Transmission shifts smooth and sure, and clutch travel feels good, with a fast take-up at start, and smooth transitions between the gears.

The motor on the car is a GM 396ci motor of unknown origin. It was treated to a new valvetrain, mild cam, Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake, Edelbrock 4bbl carb, HEI ignition, and dressed with polished aluminum Chevy Logo valve covers, chrome breather, chrome air cleaner with correct decal, chrome alternator with matching bracket and cover, high volume water pump, new radiator with shroud and large diameter fan, and more. Other than needing some aluminum polish and elbow grease, it is pretty tidy under the hood.

It breathes through a true-dual 2.5” aluminized exhaust system with 40 Series Flowmaster mufflers that sound AMAZING!

It starts easy, idles cleanly, and is ready to go at any time. Power comes on strong, and pulls cleanly through each gear, with ample power available to spin tires, pass a line of cars, or just scream down the back roads like a Duke Boy would.

All of the wiring is cleanly done and out of the way.

It does not run hot, and I have had it down to the beach in gridlocked traffic TWICE in the last few weeks, where it sits and idles for 40 minutes creeping ahead one car length at a time. It stays at about 186 most of the time, and got up to 200 on the beach in the middle of a 100 degree Saturday. Other than that, it has been COOL RUNNINGS the whole time.

I have personally put about 125 miles on the car, locally and on the highway. It is a BLAST to drive, has a solid feel with good handling, and tons of power at your disposal.

It tracks straight, and does not wander or pull even under hard braking.

Suspension is typical of classic muscle cars, and it lets you feel every whomp of the gas pedal and makes every back road feel like a race track!

It really is a fun to drive, ready to roll car, and will make the new owner very happy.
