Up for your consideration is a documented 1970 El Camino 396 Super Sport (SS). This is a factory built 396 SS and I have the Original Chevrolet Build Sheet to back it up. I’ve owned it for over 23 years. Shortly after purchasing the car in 1995 I started a on the frame restoration which took approximately 12 years. For the last 10 plus years it’s spent most of the time stored on my 4 post storage lift. Although a bulk of the restoration work was done years ago I continued to make improvements such new interior in 2014, new fuel tank and tires in 2018. Considering it spent most of it’s time in Southern California there was very little rust to deal with. As with most if not all all El Camino’s the bed pans were rusted so I had them professionally replaced. It also looks like the previous owner had the rear portion of front fenders and rear portion of quarter panels replaced with new patch panels. When I purchased the car I was told the car was never involved in an accident and it’s still the case today. The odometer currently shows 10K miles (TMU).

Other factory installed options:
The car was resprayed in 1992 by the original owner and I did a color (Metallic Grey) change in 2001. Unfortunately I was never happy with how the respray so I vinyl wrapped it (Matte Black) in 2014. The body was and still is in excellent condition prior to applying the vinyl wrap, there was no rust and little to no body filler. I’ve attached a photo of the car prior to the vinyl wrap application. When the car was resprayed in 2001 I had the hood stripes and tailgate sprayed a darker shade of grey, those colors were left exposed when the vinyl was applied, see photos. The process of applying the vinyl went well but there are a few areas where it’s not perfect, see photos. If you don’t like the vinyl wrapped it can be removed easily. As for the bed, applying vinyl was not an option so I shot the bed with black Plastic Dip so it also can be easily peeled off.
In addition to the above factory options, the following performance upgrades were installed:
The following items were also replaced:
In an attempt to be totally transparent there are a few items which should be addressed, those items are:
If you’re wondering why I’ve decided to sell it now, it’s simple, I’ve acquired a couple other cars over the years and I just don’t drive this one enough, it should be driven and enjoyed.
