1956 Corvette Engineering Trim Fitment Body Made By GM
Up for your consideration is a very rare GM engineering body. This body was made directly from the 56 clay mold and used for fitment testing of all the chrome and trim on the fiberglass body. To my knowledge it is the earliest 56 body that is still around today. Was used in the GM Tech center in Flint and was sent out to be destroyed. The front clip was cut off so it could be taken out of the room it was in. It was then acquired by a Dr. and collector in Plainwell MI. Then acquired by Dick Fernando of D & ACorvette around 2015. From the little that was left of it, the body appeared to originally rest on a exact recreation of the steel frame but made from wood. A new wood rolling cart was made so it can easily be transported and moved around. This cart has supports to hold the front clip where it would have originally been but not glued back on. The hood, doors and deck lid are fixed and are not made to open. The original paint color looks to have been black and then painted blue at some point. The blue paint is very old with scratches and chips. I do not have any original GM paperwork or data tags for it. Typically the Engineering data tags were nailed to the carts or frames these fixtures were on. There is no VIN number or title, I put clear title to be able to list it. If you have any more info on THIS body I would be happy to hear what you know! This 56 body is located in Cincinnati OH. Inspections are encouraged, selling as is and deposits are non-refundable. I can help find a shipper if needed and help load. E-mail or call Matt with any questions (513)-582-9674.
