I was an ASE certified master mechanic for 17 years and do take pride in my vehicles. I try to describe condition thoroughly, but this is a used 45 year old van and as you would expect there are imperfections, scratches, dings, wear, etc and sold as is. I'm being very "picky" on some of this stuff because I value my reputation. I welcome having potential buyers look at the van and drive in person before bidding. 1974 Chevy G10 Shorty Van. eBay has a goof in the listing process that will not let me list it as the proper G10. Running, driving project van. Very solid body and engine has good compression. Not exactly a "Barn Find" as it was stored in a garage for a long time as a non driving project.
The paint is older, but in fairly good shape. Not a factory color, it does have a gold metallic fleck in it. I tried and tried to get the flek to show in the pictures. It ends up looking like spots if I zoom in and that's not at all what it is. It's a great paint job for a driver, not show quality. It needs a good wax with a buffer. There is a few scratches in places. Extremely solid, west coast 70's shorty van. There is one small rust bubble starting under the paint on the lower driver door, just about half the size of a penny (see picture). The van had set for a long time in a garage when I got it. I went through and fixed a lot of little things to make the project a driver. Replaced the gaskets in the Carter AFB 4 barrel carburetor, new fuel filter, fuel pump, oil change and other fluids checked. The locks all work. All lights work, except for the rear interior lamp. Horn works, but is sometimes squeaky. New wiper blades The heater blows on both heat and defrost, but one of the cloth duct hoses is missing. New fuel cap. Spare set of keys included. Adjusted the rear brakes. The emergency brake works, but you have to push in the release lever by hand after pulling or it will not catch the ratchet the next time you use it. The front seats were torn so I had them re-upholstered. The interior is usable, the previous owner covered plywood with thick wood grain vinyl and painted the plywood on the top. I would use what is there for patterns and redo the interior, but it could be used as is depending on how picky the buyer is. There is a mirror above the driver area, but it is loose and there is a crack on the corners. No front carpet, the exposed front floors are very good. Someone has painted over the front floors without removing the carpet glue. The 350 engine has good compression (150 psi + or - 8 psi), the original quadrajet manifold and carburetor has been swapped out for a 1962 square bore 4v manifold and Carter AFB carburetor. The dual exhaust is quiet enough to not attract attention of law enforcement on your way home, but should be completely replaced as mufflers have noticeable exhaust leaks, and pipes have surface rust. The exhaust leaks make it sound like a farm truck! No power steering, manual brakes (disk brake front) and a 3 speed manual transmission. Column shift with a Budweiser beer tap handle. Dash is excellent for its age, it has one very small crack about 2 inches long in the face and a slight bow on one of the top edges. Both faults are shown in a picture here. The 205/70/r14 tires are like new tread, but very undersized. Chrome on the wheels is starting to peel. I left the wheels and tires alone as the next owner will probably want to replace them with some fat tires and wheels. Spare tire and wrench, but no jack. The van needs new weather stripping and window channels badly. Radio/Cassette player is not working and I didn't look at the cause. Gas pedal pad is missing, the rod is there and you can step on that just fine. The rubber seal where the shift linkage passes through the floor is missing. Center wood drink holder has some cracking. Speedometer stops working most of the time, but then every once in a while it will start working again. I think the plastic gears are worn inside the trans because spinning the cable with a drill reads 40 mph. The side markers/reflectors are starting to crack in places. Used vintage air dam and flare kit included with this sale that is not installed. This is a very solid, running and driving west coast project van. I have not seen an early van this nice for sale in 20 years, I have been very picky pointing out all imperfections I can see, most likely there are others, but its still in very rare condition for the age. I have been driving the van around as my daily driver in town for a few hundred miles to test its reliability, it has not left me stranded. Miles are increasing each week.
If I were not selling this van, the first things I would do would be speedometer gears, new exhaust, new weatherstriping and new window felts, a power steering and power brake conversion (most parts are at your local auto parts store), and put an electronic distributor in to replace the points distributor. I am leaving these projects to the new owner to do or not.
Shipping of arrangements of van and fiberglass flares/airdam, is up to the buyer. Some shipping companies will not allow loose cargo to be placed in vehicle, please check. I am willing to pick the new owner up at the local airport. If you wish to test drive and inspect the van before bidding, please do! Allegiant Air has some dirt cheap one way flights here from LAX or Las Vegas mid week. Medford Oregon airport code is MFR. I can also work with the auto transporter of your choice, but you must make the arrangements. Out of country bidders are welcome too, just realize the shipping for van and required paperwork fees are much more expensive than if buyers were located in the USA.
Options for payment - bank wire transfer (payment must clear BEFORE vehicle is released, no exception) or payment in person with cash at my bank. I priority mail titles to out of state buyers titles after payment has cleared. Tracking and signature is required for receipt.
