This 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 is clicking on all proverbial cylinders. Its exterior has been skillfully refurbished to maximize its curb appeal, the numbers matching big block under its hood is in top form to propel this classic and just inside the doors sits an interior as chock full of vintage comfort as any you're likely to find. To top it all off, this muscle car offers a great driving experience that will make you want to climb behind the... wheel and take to the asphalt at every opportunity. This Chevy cuts a very clean and vital appearance. Its Azure turquoise paint is just a stone's throw away from the turquoise metallic offering on the color chart the year it came out, so while it's not literally the original shade, it gives the impression of originality and looks downright impressive with its even coloring sitting underneath a very strong clearcoat to produce a convincing shine. Above, the black vinyl top is looking particularly sharp and really adds to the car's finished look - it fits nicely, without a hint of bubbling in sight. Chevelles of this era were distinguished by their twin dual headlight configuration and the styling feature is well-represented here, with the headlight casings looking shiny and fresh as they sit to either side of a great looking front grille sporting what appear to be new looking lenses. The theme of the exterior in its entirety is that of exuberant road readiness - the chrome bumpers in front and back are nicely aligned and carry no obvious blemishes, the glass surrounding the cabin is very clear and the trim on all sides presents well. Inside the doors, the interior has been refurbished while retaining its factory configuration and looks awesome. The black vinyl surfaces on the bucket seats up front and bench set in back appear to be lightly travelled, with no signs of discoloration or abuse as they sit over an expanse of clean carpeting. Sitting between the buckets is a center console sporting a signature Chevy horseshoe shifter that's been capably restored and offers some convenient interior storage space. An original SS steering wheel sits on its column with a well-proportioned tach situated inside, while just in front of it, the dash area is another terrific feature, carrying factory gauges that are joined by a trio of aftermarket Summit counterparts sitting directly underneath the AM/M/cassette stereo. The trunk area is clean and tidy, with a full-size spare on hand - should the unforeseen happen - and exposed inner wheelhouses with obviously well-prepped surfaces. Just like pretty much every aspect of this Chevy classic you come face to face with, the engine compartment is in great form, with the original 396 (actually a 402 if you're really counting) sitting at its center with its properly painted orange block, a pair of chrome valve covers and badged chrome air cleaner. Armed with a 4-barrel Quadrajet carb and a pair of aftermarket headers, the big block is running strong and sounding great as it sings into its dual exhaust, teaming with a 3-speed automatic transmission that's shifting with confidence-inspiring smoothness. The suspension obviously saw its share of attention during the restoration - it's impressively quiet and handles bumps very well. Power steering makes for easy navigation and power brakes that feature discs up front provide dependable stopping ability as this vintage Chevy cruises on its set of stock SS rims - 14" in front and 15" in back for a great inclined stance - that are wrapped with BF Goodrich T/A radials. With its great looking exterior combined with an impressively strong, smooth running condition, this 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 is ready to create future chapters of smile-inducing, road bound memories.
