We are selling this for a buddy of ours. His uncle bought it brand new in 1971.
He was a top local mechanic and transmission rebuilder.
As soon as he got it, he modified it by putting extra filter systems in to ensure proper operation and cooling. He put the Mickey Thompson valve covers on when the car was nearly new.
He and his wife drove it only locally.
In 1994 (the last registration and inspection stickers are still on the windshield), they bought a new car and parked the Monte.
The owner put a bag over the car to preserve it but it obviously contained some moisture and caused some extensive rust to form.
The frame underside of the car is completely, and surprisingly, solid.
the trunk and trunk drops need to be replaced as well as work on the quarter panels, fenders and rear deck.
Or...use the very expensive and hard to find parts for another build.
When we got the car, we removed all the spark plugs, poured some Marvel Mystery Oil down the cylinders and let the car sit a couple of days.
After finding the engine turned freely by hand, we cleaned the carburetor a bit, ran fresh fuel from a bottle into the fuel pump, filed the points, stuck a battery in it and gave it a try.
IT FIRED RIGHT UP and sounded fine. It shifted into reverse and drive but there are no brakes so we did not road test the car.
The engine, transmission and suspension, as well as everything else (except the extra filters and MT valve covers) are original, born with the car, matching numbers items.
