This spectacular corvette has a long and well known history. It was purchased by baseball hall of famer Reggie Jackson in 1985. According to the history, the L89 was moved from his storage warehouse the day before a fire destroyed 32 valuable cars including eight L-88s and other rare corvettes and muscle cars. The documentation of this and other cars were also lost in the fire according to the reports. Reggie sold the L89 several times to different friends and bought it back until I bought it from him in 2009.
There has been a controversy over the trim tag on the car for years and my documentation includes letters from the famous corvette expert Noland Adams who originally thought the trim tag was incorrect but later stated it was correct and that he believed the car is a legitimate L89. There has been no controversy on the engine stamp or VIN tag which clearly show it to be a numbers matching L89 engine and drive train.
The car was restored before I bought it, but the paint and condition are still excellent. There are a few flaws in the paint, but only noticeable on close inspection
The car runs great. I had the engine rebuilt a couple years ago because the rings started to allow some blow by just from age. It was rebuilt carefully to specs other than a slight reduction in compression to allow it to run on more readily available gas. I have run it on ethanol free premium mixed with leaded racing fuel since I have owned it, but have run it on pump premium when necessary without problem. A couple years ago, I drove it on one leg of the Hot Rod power tour and it ran great.
This is the ultimate show car that can be driven. I have pampered it the 9 years I have owned it and it has been kept in a climate controlled garage and covered the whole time. Reggie did the same while he owned it.
Included with the sale will be documentation from Reggie's ownership including evaluations and appraisals by Nolan Adams. I have receipts for the engine rebuild and other service work.
This corvette needs to be seen to appreciate and driven to really appreciate (sorry, no free joy test drives).
