1970 Chevrolet Nova L78 SS396 ORIGINAL PAINT NUMBERS MATCHING Additional Info:

"Reedman Special Order Nova SS396 L78" -
"Not all Dealerships were equal when it came to muscle cars. Sure, most could sell you a Chevy Super Sport and probably give you a good price too. But say you wanted the latest and best performance gear, or the near-race engine the manufacturer didn't openly advertise. . . At a lot of dealerships those requests would be met with blank stares from the sales staff."
-Muscle Car Enthusiast Magazine
Which is why gearheads in the know in the late 60's and early 70's found there way to a select few High Performance Dealers such as Reedman Chevrolet in Pennsylvania. Reedman Chevrolet was known for its reputation around high performance Chevys' and was part of the infamous "Yenko Dealer Network", mentioned in the most recent book "Yenko - The Man, The Machines, The Legend".
This special order Reedman Nova SS396 is no exception and is a great example of a no-frills muscle car built for pure speed. Under the hood is the numbers matching top dog L78 396 big block motor rated at 375hp, with solid lifters, aluminum intake, and a big holley, it was an engine option that required some detective work by the selling dealer to even find on the Chevrolet order form. It is hooked to an M40 Turbo 400 CW Automatic Transmission with a column shift and out back is a 3.55:1 12 bolt gear-set with positraction. Completing the all-business feel of the car is the simple front bench seat. The way it was spec'd out, it had to be one-of-a-kind. Wrapped in Autumn Gold 58/58, the original owner checked off nearly every box, with nearly 20 options noted on the order sheet (still have original order sheet, window sticker), such as the rare F41 suspension with sway bar, tinted glass, deluxe interior trim, power steering, AM Radio, bumper guards, door edge guards, electric clock, visor vanity mirror, remote rear view mirror, optional rally wheels, just to name a few!
Trying to uncover accurate histories of the more obscure dealer supercars can be an inexact science, so we are extremely fortunate that the car has all of its original documentation including Protect-o-Plate, Window Sticker, Bill of Sale, PDI Sheet and even retains the original "Reedman Chevrolet" name-plate on the rear decklid. The original numbers matching born-with driveline accompanies the car and is documented 49,600 miles in it's life and is all original never been painted, only a few touch ups over the years. That paperwork was crucial to confirming the history of this special order Reedman Nova SS396.Also comes with the original PA license plate, log bookof services, original title, registration papers, etc. making this one of the most documentedL78's out there!
This Novawas special ordered in the first week of July 1970 and being delivered in August '70 which is believed to be one of the last L78's Chevrolet ever produced. The only thing added to the car at some point in its life was the "Sun Tach" & SW gauges below the dash, both of which were commonly available through performance minded dealerships like Reedman Chevrolet (original dated rally wheels and correct white-line tires are currently on the car, also comes with the COPO style dog dish steel wheels if desired).
This car is not for everyone, its for the discerning collector who appreciates originality and who likes to use the famed phrase "Leave all Original!" After all these original cars are being more and more rare to find, after all there only original once! There are a few bumps, bruises and rust spots around the wheel well and fender, but hasn't gotten any worse from over the years, and most of the original paint shows well. Underneath the car is very dry, has no rust as you can see in the pics.
Over the last year I've done the following: rebuilt the carb, replaced the alternator with correct gm unit (have original or go with the car), replaced bushings, new sending unit, repaired all gauges to be functional, etc. to ensure this car is well sorted and ready to hit the road!Only thing missingis the original smog equipment, door edge gaurds (which I have and will include with sale) and the seats were recovered in vinyl and not the original cloth from factory (cannot source at this time).
Sure you can find a restored numbers matching L78 Nova, most asking well over $50K-60K+ range, while many are lacking the original documentation to prove it. With that said, this example is quite possibly one of the last L78's produced, numbers matching, special ordered and largely original Nova SS396 L78! Email or call 415.373.2965 with any questions or to setup a time to view or for a PPI. Please no tire kickers or lowballers, will consider reasonable offers. Reason for sale is looking to purchase property so some of the toys need to go! Thanks for your interest & Good luck!
