You are bidding on an extremely rare, original late 50's/early 60's-era Chevrolet Corvette amusement park ride. This was a kids ride, used on a enclosed rail/track at an amusement park, and itis the only one known (update: one of two based off a recent conversation with another eBayer)lefttobe known to exist today. It is 99% complete, and it still retains the original Continental gas engine, wearing its original paint, which spins freely. It steers, it has an accelerator, and the "shifter" is actually a "brake" that pulls back on a belt that slows the ride down. This is aVERY well constructed piece, and NOT some cheaply made item. It's large at over 71"in length, by 30" wide. Both rear wheels are chain driven. The front wheel hubs have zerk fittings to allow them to be greased/serviced. The tires are mismatched, so it's clear that this little car got some serious use at the amusement park over the years it was in service! Other than the tag on the engine, there are no other markings on it to indicate who was the original manufacturer. The serial number on the engine starts with "54" so there's a possibility that this could have been constructed in '53/'54. Exact age is not known, but my guess is that it was built well before 1960. The condition is suprisingly good given the age, and the fact that it likely saw thousands and thousands of laps around the track it was confined to. The fiberglass body is not broken, the frame is not damaged, and other than a part of the hood/side trim and the windshield, it is astonishingly complete! Lastly, the headlights originally functioned/lit upas they are wired for power. Another eBayer sent me pictures of these cool Corvettes being used at the amusement park back in the day. My auction will not allow additional pictures, but I will be happy to send them to anyone who'd like to see them!
This has been in my private collection for the past 20+ years and never offered for sale prior to now. My intention was to restore it one day, but I have not got around to it, so I am putting it up for sale. Cars & Parts magazine did some research and a story on this car many years ago, and they were unable to find or document another one, thus giving the belief that it's the only one known to exist. Properly restored, most Corvette collectors believe the value of this car could exceed $20,000, possibly even more. The value could be only limited by the sale of other identical cars, and there are no other identical cars left!
Ido not need to sell this car, and I have several standing offersnear $5000,so please keep that in mind, and do not low ball me. The item is for sale locally and may be sold at any time.
Pick up is preferred, but a crate can be constructed, and this item can be shipped via truck freight any where in the world.A crate will be $300 additionaland all applicable truck freight/international freightwill be at the cost of the buyer.
