This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS Pace Car has an awful lot going for it - terrific curb appeal via a signature two tone paint job, a big block sitting underneath the hood to provide all the power you could want and a one of a kind interior that's been brought back to top shape come to mind right off. There were fewer than 4000 of its kind made to begin with, and most of those have fallen by the wayside... over these past decades, so it's also got substantial collectability to go along with its outstanding, vintage good looks. Skillful restoration and good care have a powerful impact on a classic car and for this one, they've paid especially big dividends. The Dover white body carrying a pair of broad Hugger orange hood and deck lid stripes that help define this Camaro's pace car configuration looks great, and the stripes themselves have very clean edges. Chevy changed the configuration of the hidden headlights up front for this year, giving them distinctive horizontal vents that look great in their white surroundings, with a black SS grille sitting front and center and a pair of close-set fog lights looming below. The badging on all four sides is clean and securely positioned, and the front and back bumpers sport straight chrome with a great shine. For protection against inclement weather, the manual white vinyl top raises into place without any drama and has an impressively clear plastic window in back. The interior waiting inside is a stunner, featuring the original orange houndstooth check upholstery that also helped distinguished this special breed of Camaro when it was released. It's been refurbished to an impressive condition, with a fresh look on its vinyl front buckets and rear bench seat that can only come from light, careful use. Take your position in the driver's seat and grab hold of the white-balled Hurst shifter and you'll be transported to a different time, emerging at a late '60s era Indy 500 race and feeling like you're leading the pack around the turn as the drivers behind you eagerly await the opportunity to mash down on their accelerators. The dash area has been carefully restored, with an instrument cluster that now carries a full complement of nicely-fitted Dakota Digital analog gauges. The trunk area in back is in the clean shape you'd expect from the rest of the car. Just as you'd want in a car that ably blends RS and SS features by virtue of its special edition status, a big block 396 cubic inch V8 sits in a very clean engine bay whose black motor mounts provide an effective visual contrast to the white interior walls. Armed with aluminum heads, an Edelbrock intake, Holley 4-barrel carb, MSD ignition and an upgraded cam that also provides a nice, subtle lope, the big block has substantial power, as well as a great exhaust note, and it pairs with a 4-speed manual transmission to make this Camaro a blast to drive. With power steering and power brakes that include discs in front, it's also well-suited for frequent use in modern-day conditions. A look at the undercarriage reveals reassuringly solid floorpans and suspension components. This very rare Chevy muscle car sits on a set of 17" Foose wheels that are armed with BF Goodrich G-Force tires.
