1966 Chevrolet Corvette Additional Info:
You are viewing a honest original 1966 Corvette wearing mostly original Milano Maroon Lacquer Paint, It has been spotted in over the years, has spider checks as original Lacquer does but not over extensive, and has its share of small nicks and blemishes but paint still shines well and over all looks remarkably good for 52 years old. Body is excellent, it has had some minor work done front drivers sidearound wheel well . Very Minor indeed! Car is straight, Doors Do not sag and shut like new with one finger! All body panels align well, and it still has all its original bonding strips, Frame is excellent with no rust, bird cage has no issues. With the exception of the tight hurst shifter and radials this car remains as it came out of the factory.
I have owned this car for 4 years and it is in my name with a clear Illinois Title, in fact this car was always a Illinois car, I may be the fourth owner, I have the original Chicago Tribune ad from 1984 when this car was sold to a MasterMechanic who worked for Colonial Chevrolet in Shaumburg Illinois. This gentleman took the time to re do and dial this car in mechanically better then factory, this numbers matching 327/350horse motor runs like a Swiss wristwatch, it is smooth responsive and pulls like a freight train. The original muncie 4 speed has no noises and operates as new, the hurst shifter is a much improved aftermarket addition, this thing shifts as tight as a new car. The 3:55 Posi has no bearing noise and is a very nice all around gear. The brakes were redone withstainless and although not power stop the car nicely with no pull either direction. The steering is power ARM steering as tight as you'll find, I think the non power steering small blocks are much more enjoyable to drive but still a pain in the ass toparallel park. Driving this car you'll be impressed of how tight it is, my mechanic told me it drives better then any mid-year Corvette he has worked on and he was a master mechanic for Tuffo Chevrolet in Glendale Heights. Anyone who rides in this car tells meimmediately how nice it feels. Mywife will even ride in it and trust me thats a real seal of approval!
Everything operates on this car and I mean everything, Backup Lights,Emergency Brake Light, Hidden Headlight Light, AM/FM Radio, Power Antenna. Heate, Defrost, Horn,Wipers, Interior Lights,Gauges, Tach, Oh even the Clock Works and keeps excellent time! And finally the Power Windows work and are as quick to go up as I have ever seen!
Has Hardtop but I only use it when in storage. It will need to be restored. Frankly their useless but it was born this way.
Glass is all good, Chrome is good.
Underneath it is driver quality, its been driven for 91,244 miles and it has held up well, has original oilcanisterand spare tire carrier, jack and spare tire, correct floor pan shields, correct manual steering damper etc. Engine has all correctshielding in place, exhaust is stock Tires are Bridgestone Radials.
The Ignition Key fits both doors. TheHidden head lights work great. On cold starts the choke works as it should. I can't say enough about the enjoyment I have had these past few years. The top is new and correct blackvinyl, the seats have been redone, when you walk into your garage this car smells wonderful, just like as a kid walking into my Dad's garageopening the doors to his 1964 Chevy Impala, just brings you back in time.
You know you can go to a Auction and see some prettyspectacular cars with glass like paint, and frankly pay big money for them and not be near as good quality as this piece. I wouldn't touch a thing on this car just keep it clean and in good driving order, thats it.
Note, I have driven this car last year in 90 degree weather around 60 miles on freeway with average speeds of 70 miles an hour with a brief period atspeeds higher then I will admit to, I felt safe and sure the whole way.
Its time for me to let someone else be the care taker of this remarkable car, its been a while since I sold a car but over the years I have sold a number of my own personal cars on Ebay and some for some close friends. I have had the pleasure of dealing with a great community of car guys. I have had a few screw balls but the good have out weighed the bad by far.
You can ask questions but if I gotta go through every part number andtake pictures of the distributer number etc, well lets just say why don't you just come and look at the car or send a nice experienced person out here. Fair Enough?
