You are bidding on a 1981 Camaro Z/28. Very desirable and nicely optioned with factory black exterior, and black interior, factory T-tops, factory A/C, and a 4 speed transmission. This is a great little project that you can enjoy as-is, or drive and enjoy while you take the car to the next level.
The Engine- Still has it's numbers matching 5.0L 305 V-8 engine, with the vin stamp verified. The car retains all of it's original emissions equipment. The engine seems to run strong, and doesn't use any oil. It has the computer controlled Quadrajet on it. I am not familiar with these carbs, and am unfamiliar with how to adjust it. It idles high at times. Aside from that, it's a really nice running car.
The Transmission- The Borg-Warner Super T-10 transmission I assume is original, although I can't find the VIN stamp on it. 3.42 original posi rear end. Shifts nicely through all the gears, no grinding or noises.
The Interior- The interior could use the normal stuff, i.e. door panels, dash pad, etc. The seats are from a 1984 Z/28. They are nice because they fit great, and have the option to recline, which factory seats in 1981 didn't. Unfortunately, I don't have the originals, however these are much nicer. Carpet is original and still nice. Needs headliner. Console would have been perfect, but someone cut the front drivers corner off, as pictured. The radio opening is still intact, and not cut.
The Body- The car has been in CA since the early 1990's. Overall, it's a very solid car. It has a few rust spots in unusual places. There is a rust spot on the metal dash filler between the dash pad and the windshield. A small spot right in front of the drivers side T-top. Very minor amounts in the drivers rear floor (probably not worth mentioning or repairing). 2 areas behind the rear bumper. These spots are not major. The decklid should be replaced, as there is rust under the spoiler. The rest of the floors, doors, fenders, quarters, and rockers are excellent. The Air Induction hood is perfect.Overall, the car is pretty consistent with a California car of it's age, and quite dry. Surprisingly, the T-tops are not currently leaking. If they are, it's very minor, as we have had some major rainfall, and the car stayed dry inside. Some damage to the drivers fender extention (where spoiler bolts on). Previous owner shot a light coat of matte black over the car. The original black paint is underneath. No accidents, ZERO bondo, and an very straight body. Not to mention the really cool part, of being factory black.
Please keep in mind, this is a 37 year old car, and it is not perfect. It is a nicely driving car, that can be enjoyed right now, or taken to the next level. It is going to need a few things. The power steering has a leak at the steering box. New units are available for about $120. It is currently drivable, but leaks over the course of a few days. Power steering pump and hoses are brand new. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Fresh oil change. New fuel tank. New parking brake cables. Speedometer cable needs to be replaced. Heater and AC are currently not functioning. Tachometer reads incorrectly, I've been told there is a resistor that goes bad, but I haven't looked at it.
This car has a ton of potential. I've had the car for a little over a year. I am only selling because I am thinning out my classic car collection, and I currently have 2 of these 81 Z/28's.
