Amazing fresh garage find and original time capsule 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle Wagon up for auction. Unrestored and running original Southern California owner car with factory Nomad Custom trim package, 307 V8 and many documents including original title, protecto-plate, and dealer delivery checklist. The 97-year-old original owner purchased this car on Nov. 2, 1967 from Weseloh Chevrolet Dealership in Oceanside, CA and it has remained in sunny San Diego County ever since. Has been nestled in her dry garage since off the road in 2000.
Built in Fremont, CA (Z assembly code) this cool wagon has very straight, dry and clean body and looks to have 100% original bright Island Teal paint (F code) with original patina on hood and roof. Excellent bumpers with stainless trim, factory door edge guards and luggage roof rack all in sparkling shape. Have all the original Nomad Custom, Chevelle and Chevy emblems. Nothing missing. Small rust at lower front fender corners, rear interior gate panel, tailgate bottom and in hidden side spare tire well. Pristine wagon storage compartment and lid has original factory galvanized drain plugs. Doors, doorjambs, floors, frame, tank, rear quarters are in great condition. The metal interior wagon deck and fold down in like new condition, likely protected by a removable carpet that covered them for years.
No cracks in the original steering wheel. Supple original padded dash with no tears. Both factory upgrade blue vinyl interior seats are in excellent original condition retaining original deep color and pattern. One small seam split in upper front seat. Nice condition complete original seat belts in front and rear. Four door panels in excellent condition showing their bright deep colors. The bolt on front door armrest pads each has small vinyl split. Original door sill plates are nice and shiny. The original base factory textured rubber floor covering is beautiful and has no visible tears or major discoloration. It was long covered by the collection of carpet mats this lady had in the wagon. Headliner and sun visors are in excellent shape with no sagging. Glass is clear, all there and fine. Original AM/FM radio, factory clock, headlights, signals, dome light, door/key buzzer alert, lighter and fan all work. Has original antenna.
Very original and clean engine compartment. The original orange factory engine paint, assembly engine block paint letters (DE) and timing marks are still visible on clean block. Air cleaner, with its CA emissions tubes and vapor hoses, has original decals. Engine starts quickly and vehicle drives and stops nicely.Power steering and brakes. The 307 V8, with original two-barrel carb that still has factory tag, runs smoothly. Has fresh fluids, filters, plugs and master cylinder. The factory fan shroud, washer bottle and overflow tank are still there. Sports 15-inch Chevy Ralley wheels with center caps and trim rings. The original steel wheels and hubcaps also included.
Wagon may have just the 29,648 miles showing in a straight line on odometer. Unverified because told owner in nursing home. But overall condition, especially low wear interior, engine condition, paint marks, original factory rear spiral shocks and even factory paper tags on rear springs as well as sequential mileage notations by owner on drivers door could be evidence.
Wagon still has the original 1967 issued California title. In the glove box were original owners manual with the salesman's card stapled to it, the matching factory envelope and plastic sleeve, dated matching protecto-plate, the dealer delivery checklist card, first CA DMV receipt in 1967, first temporary paper drive tag and CA registration cards each year from 1967 to 1999. Haven't pulled back seat for build sheet but guess still there.
This is a rare opportunity to own and an original Southern California owner, unmolested, fresh garage find 1968 Chevelle Nomad Custom Wagon.
