1960 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 900 Additional Info:
Up for auction is perhaps one of the most exceptional Corvairs still in existence. This 1960 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 900 club coupe is a stunning survivor with only 38,333 original miles on the odometer. It has a unique history of being a Concourse show winning Corvair and was at one time owned by Clark's Corvair Parts of Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts. It was purchased to authenticate and reproduce Corvair parts. It is exactly the way it left the General Motors factory in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and is believed to be one of the best remaining low mileage original 1960 models. It has spent the last 15 years on display in the world's second largest auto museum in Volo, IL where I purchased it in 2014. Every detail of this Corvair is absolutely stunning. The body is laser strait and has never had any accidents or body work. The doors click out and close like a new car. There is absolutely no rust whatsoever. The exterior was repainted once in its original Ermine White when it was owned by Clark's Corvair Parts in the late 1990's. It was finished in enamel with hardener, wet sanded and then highly polished to give it a near exact factory lacquer looking finish. All serial numbers and date codes match, including the windshield and all glass. Even the key for the ignition and locks is the original. Mechanically and cosmetically, this car is in outstanding condition. The engine and body have been highly detailed, with no expense spared. All replacement parts used were strictly General Motors N.O.S. Under the hood is the original 80 hp engine that runs perfectly. The entire engine compartment is spotless and factory correct down to the smallest detail. All components unique to the 60 model engine are still intact and functional just as they were intended. A new reproduction Delco battery was installed making it look just the way it did when it rolled off the assembly line in 1960. Both carburetors have been freshly rebuilt and the entire engine professionally resealed in July. The original powerglide automatic transmission still shifts beautifully and smooth. The reliable 3.55 geared differential provides plenty of power and makes freeway driving at 75 an ease. The drivetrain is mechanically sound with no leaks or smoke. The bright red interior is still in outstanding original condition with the exception of new carpet that was professionally installed in the correct red "tuxedo" style. Everything works down to the rare dash mounted clock accessory. The gasoline heater standard on all 1960 models still operates perfectly and is ideal for cold weather driving. The Corvair Monza did not become available until late 1960 after many customers complained of the lack of luxury offered in the 500 and 700 models. This Monza is highly optioned with an AM radio, folding rear seat, dash mounted clock, reverse lights, full wheel covers, wide white wall tires and bumper guards. The wide white wall tires are Coker Tire radial "made to look bias ply" giving it an original bias ply look with the comfort and ride of a radial. This car is turn key and ready to drive anywhere. No disappointments. Here is your chance to own a piece of Corvair history at its finest to drive or display. I'm happy to answer any questions you have. The car is currently located in Albuquerque, NM and can most certainly be seen in person anytime. I'm happy to provide more picturesupon request. Payment is to be made via Cashier's check within 7 days of purchase. Thank you for looking and happy bidding!
