The Caprice was one of the most popular cars of all time for some very good reasons. It was the car of choice for lots of families who needed the room, and also for those who wanted a full-sized luxury car, but with the sensible value of a Chevrolet. This two door Landau is a fine example of one of those luxury versions.
These cars can still be seen on the road today fairly frequently. So many of us grew up with them, or drove them, and this one might bring back some memories. It is a two-door coupe, which by todays standards looks big. The truth however, is that this generation of Caprice was the result of a major, and award winning, redesign and downsize of the previous models. Motor Trend even declared the new model the "Car of the Year" in 1977. Crisp clean lines define the car which looks great in gray with a red pin-stripe and chrome accents on the wheel arches. The Landau designation means that it is a two door with a partial vinyl roof, and that vinyl is in nice condition on this car. A unique feature of this model is the three-sided rear window that gave the car a kind of fastback look. Wire wheel covers complete the look and Landau badges let you know what it is.
A red cloth interior complements the gray body very nicely. As a full-sized car, there is lots of room to load up your friends for a trip with 3-person bench seats both front and rear. Or, spread out and relax as you drive if you are running solo. A wood tone dash has all the controls placed conveniently in an uncluttered fashion with that Chevrolet sensibility shining through. There are a few signs of its age showing through in the interior with some fading, but that is pretty normal and to be expected in cars from this timeframe. The redesign of this model somehow increased rear seat headroom, and legroom, all while making the car shorter. Those were some good engineers. So jump in the back seat and relax sometime just for fun.
The drivetrain on this car is classic Chevrolet. Proven components. Proven reliability. A 305 cubic-inch V-8 engine provides good power and reliability. There is evidence that someone was taking care of the maintenance on this car and that normal service items were replaced to keep it humming along. A 3-speed automatic trans gets the power transferred back to the rear wheels. The suspension is tuned for luxury and the car rides like a dream. Power steering helps you navigate around in tight quarters and at low speeds, and power disc brakes insure that you can stop this full-sized ride in a hurry at need.
Come on down and check out this comfortable and popular car. It might be just the car you have been looking for.
