1963 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 900 Additional Info:
1963 Corvair Monza 900 Convertible with a 1965 Corsa 140 Hp. engine & front suspension.
310 days ago I had a kidney transplant. I'm doing well but I haven't been able to spend time with my Corvair, like I would like to. Unfortunately I need to part with her, I'm gonna lose my shorts on this one but now I have a new lease on life.
She's not the prettiest to look at but she's fun to drive. I won't hide anything, please trust me! Let me give you the pros first and the cons last, there are far more pros! This is a 1963 Corvair Monza 900 convertible. I have stripped the side glass out along with the window regulators and the convertible top mechanism. I have all of these items to go with the car, I was planning on running her as a light weight roadster.
I will now list all of the components that are new and reconditioned below, this is what makes her a great bargain for you to buy her! Buy her drive her home and finish her restoration or strip the power pack & front suspension out to put in your good looking Corvair.
*She comes with two engine deck-lids, the one on it is a 1959 Lexan dealer "show off" deck-lid (it is cracked and I'm told it is repairable). The second is the stock steel deck lid.
*Clark's quick ratio sifter.
*Clark's quick ratio steering arms.
*Front suspension was completely rebuilt with all new rod ends and bushings. This of course is the suspension that has the eccentric bolts for wheel alignment, no shims required like the older Corvair's. It also has the anti-sway bar which makes the car drive so much nicer and safer!
*Front disc brake conversion with stainless steel brake lines. New double master cylinder is included with car but not installed yet. with Clark's hart lines.
*New rear brakes.
*Grant wood steering wheel, with fold down knob.
*New tires on Wheel Vintiques wheels.
*Rear axle bearings have been carefully drill and re-greased, the hole is sealed with silicone.
*Good used 3.27 to1 ratio differential, cleaned and inspected for gear lash and found to be in excellent condition, new side seals installed.
*Transmission was completely cleaned, two new main bearings were nstalled with the number 1 synchro replaced.
Engine is a 1965 Coras 140 "RB" code unit: I built this engine from the ground up with the best possible parts and machine techniques. I'm a certified aircraft mechanic & inspector dealing in air cooled horizontally opposed engines, this Corvair engine was right up my alley.
Parts used for the engine build include:
1. Keith Black Hypereutectic pistons.
2. Clevite 77 Main and Rod bearings.
3. Iskenderian 270-HL-HYD camshaft with a new Clark's aluminum camshaft drive gear.
4. The crankshaft was straightened, ground, micro polished and ion-nitride treated.
5. The 140 heads we're completely overhauled and modified. Semi aggressive porting the polishing with extensive de-flashing between cylinders. resurfaced, inverted stepped valve seats (intake are bronze, exhaust are tungsten carbide ), bronze guides, stainless steal valves, springs with flat wire dampers, spring retainers & valve lock keepers, spark plug thread-serts, inverted stepped head studs seats, no expense was spared on these heads (pictured). Buy this Corvair for the engine alone, you won't be sorry!
6. Cylinders were inspected, cleaned, ground and honed.
7. Hastings rings.
8. Clark's engine seal kit all Viton seals were used, and copper cylinder gaskets.
9. Clark's high ratio roller rocker set installed with poly locks.
10. Clark's ultimate oil pan.
11. 65 amp alternator.
13. New fan bearing pressed into top cover.
12. Silicone ignition wire set.
14. Distributor rebuilt with Oilite bushings and Pertronix Ignitor II & Flame-Thrower II coil.
15. Clark's ultimate exhaust system.
16. Transmission and engine mounts.
17. Crankshaft harmonic balancer.
18. Connecting rods were trued.
19. 12 plate oil cooler was pressure tested after being flusher, sealed with Viton seals.
20. Of course the crankcase was cleaned and inspected for cracks, proper camshaft go-no-go tolerances prior to use.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something off the top of my head, if you have any questions please contact me prior to bidding. Once again buy this car for the engine alone!
So now for the bad parts of the car:
*Small portion of the driver front floor boards need to be replaced, the entire right floorboard needs to be replaced, these parts are readily available at Clarks Corvair.
*The steering gearbox is a bit loose and has been adjusted to the maximum. It would need to be rebuilt if somebody was planning on finishing the restoration of this car, once again it is completely drivable for now I'm just saying for long-term use it within the overall.
*The front right fender and hood were in a fender bender, prior to my purchasing the car, they need to be massaged out.
* Obviously she needs a paint job after the bodywork, and a new interior and carpet.
That's the entire list of negatives for this car. Like I said buy it drive it home and just pull the engine and front suspension out if you like, it's easy to bolt right into your project.
