1983 Chevrolet El Camino Super Sport Additional Info:
1983 Chevrolet El Camino Super Sport.
This was my Dad's pride and joy until he passed away in 2008. My Stepmother kept it until she recently passed in November 2017. It was then left to me and my Stepsister. Neither of us have have room to store it, so it's time to let it go to another person who can appreciate this car for what it is. Dad was the second owner, he bought it around 1985 with low miles, when he retired in Kingman, Arizona. It has always been garaged, and was regularlyserviced at Russells Auto and the Kingman Chevy dealership. It's a very well preserved, rust free car.
I washed it and drove it around a bit. It's in very good survivor condition, but it's not a restored vehicle. The bench vinyl seats have been recovered in cloth, and the upper portion of the door panels have also been recovered in vinyl. The dash is in excellent shape, showing only one small crack near the defroster vent. The headliner is sagging in areas, but is not torn. I checked all the electrics, and everything appears to work, the clock even works! The slider for the A/C controls is stuck in the off position, but I can move it about ½" and the A/C compressor kicks in. The weatherstripping all in intact and in good shape, but the piece on the outside of the drivers door has deteriorated and needs to needs to be replaced. It drives fine, but has rattles you'd expect from a 35 year old car. The motor doesn't smoke, but you can tell it is getting tired. The transmission shifts as it should. The car tracks straight, but there's some play in the steering on center, and the shocks are pretty soft. The paint is fading, but I'll bet a good detail shop could bring a lot of it back. The original factory Super Sport decals are there, and intact. Wheels are factory original. We found a list of service records, a spare center cap and the original owner manual. The spare tire and jack are stored where they belong, and the tires all have lots of tread, but they older tires. It's never been in an accident, and has always been garaged. Dad did drill the tailgate and add two extra turn signals, sure wish he hadn't done that, but that's what Dad's do sometimes.
If I was to keep this car, I'd go one of two ways with it. Do a frame on restoration, and make it a Cars & Coffee conversation piece. Option two would be making it into a Resto-Rod. It's far from perfect, but you'd be hard pressed to find another El Camino of this vintage, especially a Super Sport, that is this well preserved.
That's about all I can tell you about this car. There may be other issues that I don't know about, but it's not my car, and the folks are both gone so I can't ask them. If you want any other pictures of specific areas, let me know and I'll forward them to you. Please, please keep in mind I have tried to be as honest as I can about this car, and tell you everything I know about it, and list issues that I can obviously see and feel. If your win the auction, and find something else wrong, there is nothing I can do about it. It is 35 years old after all, and I don't know if there may be hidden issues I am unaware of.
Note: There may be a few more miles put on before it sells as we are using it to take stuff to Good Will and other places. It won't be a lot though, less than 100 I suspect.
