Featuring an inspired restoration and an array of top of the line performance parts, this 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS Tribute exemplifies those prized assets we look for in a modified muscle car - a great combination of undeniable curb appeal and outstanding power. Backed up by restoration photos to chronicle its evolution, this Camaro is as configured to induce staring as much as it is for leaving a trail of molten rubber on the asphalt.
The maroon metallic paint makes an immediate impression. Sporting a great shine, it draws you in to admire some of the other details you'll see upon taking a closer look. The custom hood, raised in its center for clearance, hints at the power that lurks underneath. It's a skillfully executed modification - it doesn't just jut upwards as you see so often, but rather has a consistent contour around its perimeter and, when viewed from both the front and sides, blends in well with the rest of the car. The exterior finishes are well looked after and the prominent Camaro front grille has a fresh, deep black hue and the chrome trim and badging all appear to be in fine shape. When you first look at a stellar convertible like this, you naturally picture yourself hitting the road for some open-air motoring, but in less forgiving weather, the manual black vinyl convertible top raises without issue and is in good shape, showing no obvious wear spots and even sporting a clear plastic window in back.
Climb inside and you'll find that the black interior is in impressive shape. The buckets up front and the bench seat in the back show very minimal wear and have been impressively restored, featuring the original Camaro design on their surfaces. Just beyond the wood grain steering wheel, the stock instrument cluster remains easily readable, and to the right a pair of additional gauges to monitor oil pressure and engine temperature sits at the front of the center console. The dash pad retains a fresh appearance and shows no warpage or splits, a welcome detail with black upholstery being so vulnerable to sun damage. In back, the trunk area is lined with an Edelbrock Racing mat, with a multi CD changer to the side securely anchored to the floor.
The array of performance components under the hood leaves no doubt that this car was fully intended to run in some impressively fast company. The very year that this Camaro rolled off the line, an RS/SS model paced the field at the Indianapolis 500, then equipped with a very well-regarded 396 engine. What you'll find underneath the hood here certainly ratchets the performance up a couple of notches, as a 454 stroked out to a full 512 cubic inches sits as the foundation of one seriously powerful drivetrain. It's topped with a Holley 750 and is bolted to a 4 speed Muncie M21 transmission specifically built to handle the demands of high-horsepower engines. Inside the engine bay, there are quite a number of custom touches, including a chrome master cylinder and valve covers, as well as billet pulleys. A generously proportioned aluminum radiator sits up front, matched with dual electric fans to keep temperatures in check during more demanding driving conditions. This truly high-performance, drop top muscle car sits on a set of 15" American Racing wheels, outfitted with Goodrich T/A radials.
