1963 Chevrolet Impala -- Additional Info:
Our friends in Detroit were producing "muscle cars" long before someone coined the phrase. They were larger and heavier than their mid-size counterparts but had amazing powertrains. This 1963 Impala Super Sport 409 is a great example. One of Chevrolets best looking full-size models this fiery red hardtop is striking from any angle. The owner has cared for this Super Sport for 35 years and states that the mileage of 37600 is actual. He performed a total body-on-frame restoration in 1998. As can be seen in the pictures the exterior (with skirts) is pin-straight and solid. The Emerald Red paint (original color) is virtually flawless as is all the chrome. The fully restored interior is an invitation to go back in time. Overall this Impala looks very much like it did sitting on the showroom floor in 1963. Horsepower is furnished by the famous '409" cubic inch GM 'W-Series' engine rated at 435bhp. The owner states that it is the original matching numbers motor that was totally rebuilt by CH Enterprises in California. It has solid lifters and a factory 2x4 intake with two Carter AFB carburetors (rebuilt). The rear carb (believed to be a #3362) has idle adjustments and a choke. Exhaust is routed through factory manifolds. The 409W is backed by a 4-speed manual transmission with new Muncie shifter posi-traction differential and 3.36:1 gears. Factory steel wheels (6"w) are hidden by original spinner wheel covers and mount 225x75Rx14 radials. The chassis is equipped with power steering and 4-wheel drum brakes. This Super Sport 409 truly needs to be seen to be appreciated. Our friends in Detroit were producing "muscle cars" long before someone coined the phrase.
