This 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS 454 is a great looking, fun to drive, and easy to own and maintain car that perfectly captures everything about the Muscle Car era. YouTube Video will open in a new window [isdntekvideo] According to the prior owner, the car has a 3 year old complete restoration that was completed less than 3,000 miles ago. The body on the car is very solid, clean, and rust free, and you can take a 3x3” felt covered magnet over every panel and it will stick like glue. NO bondo panels, NO chicken wire, NO cut-up beer cans or other backyard tricks, just solid, straight, and clean metal. Paint is a beautiful base/clear Daytona Yellow finish with black SS striping, and it shows exceptionally well from front to back, with only a handful or so minor signs of use and enjoyment to be found. Stone chips, tiny scuffs, a light scratch, and other miniscule blemishes are about it, and car shows glossy, slick, and wet from every angle, and catches looks like a supermodel when you roll down the street. Cowl hood with functional hood pins is all steel, and looks great on the car. Glass looks great all around, with no cracks, chips, or damage evident. Chrome, trim, and other bright work on the car is in very good condition, and shows as good in person as it does in the photos below. Emblems and badges are clean and show ready. All of the lights on the car front and back currently look and work exactly as they should. Flip down rear plate allows easy access for fueling. Panel fit and gaps are very nice, and the doors do not droop or sag on opening. CRAGAR SS rims show well, but do have some light oxidation and signs of use in spots, and the BFGOODRICH RWL tires on the car give it an era-correct custom look. Power comes from a NON-MATCHING 454 4-bolt main motor that was built close to stock with only a mild cam as an upgrade. Reliability and every day drive quality was important to the prior owner, so nothing was added that would make it to radical or that would require constant attention and adjustment. It is left in a stock-appearing configuration, with factory manifolds, chrome valve covers, and a chrome air cleaner cover as the only real dress-up items. The motor comes to life with a turn of the key, and the car has a beautiful, mellow exhaust note thanks to the Flowmaster box-style mufflers and true-dual exhaust system. Idle is smooth with a very light lope from the small cam, and the car is ready to roll when you are. Snick the Turbo 400 Hydra-Matic transmission into gear and hit the gas pedal, and the transmission sends all that power back to the rear wheels via a correct GM 12 Bolt Posi-Traction rear end stuffed with daily-driver friendly 3.43 gearing. The car is a blast to drive, and feels very solid and smooth on the road. It is perfectly happy on the freeway too, and does not run hot, act funny, stall, or anything else. The underside of the car is incredibly clean, and shows how much attention was put into the restoration when it was done. Panels are clean, boxed control arms are solid and clean, frame is clean, and the whole chassis shows very well from front to back, without any thick, goopy “undercoating” spray some places like to pile on. Power steering is so smooth, anyone in the family could drive the car, and the power brakes scrub off speed without any odd pulling, fade, or wander. The car tracks straight, and you can cruise through traffic with one finger on the wheel to guide you. Trunk is solid, clean, and rust free, but does still need rubber plugs. Hey, you have to do SOMETHING to your new toy, right? The interior is quite clean and shows very well. An original SS dash houses Tach, Speedo, and Clock, along with pods for AMP, FUEL and TEMP gauges. Speedo works, but is about 3mph slower than GPS, as is the norm on these older cars. Functional odometer reads 37,648 miles, but the car is sold as mileage exempt on the Florida title it comes with. Dash is clean and neat, and has no cracks or damage evident. A KENWOOD KDC-125U head unit was installed to provide AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA/ Wav/FLAC/iPhone/USB and Spotify/Pandora capability. Speakers were also upgraded, and the whole thing sounds great when you are cruising down the boulevard. Factory controls for heat and defrost are intact, as are the light and wiper controls, locking glovebox with liner, and original ashtray. Bucket seats grace each side of the center console with SS shift, and are rip, tear, and stain free just the back seat. The silver trim around both front buckets shows wear, and the driver seat is missing one of the button caps. Seat backs show scuffs and marks from normal use, but are solid and undamaged. Headliner is solid and intact, and the door panels, kick panels, pillar trim, and package trim are all in very good condition as well. Carpet looks great and shows only the lightest signs of being used.
