Freshly restored with beautiful paint & interior, completely new engine, transmission, suspension and braking system! Upgraded with pack & pinion power steering, Turbo-Hydramatic automatic, power disc brakes, and more! A superb touring car with all original looks!!
Offered here is a stunning 1938 Chevrolet Master 2 Door Town Sedan finished in slick Black paint with new Beige broadcloth interior. This example was said to have remained with the original GM dealership on display from new until a full restoration was commissioned in approximately 2016. Having aged from sitting in dry storage, the paint and interior had deteriorated from over 75 years passing by, so a professional repaint of the exterior was commissioned while outstanding results, along with a new interior installed. All of the vehicle’s exterior chrome trim & bumpers were re-plated and now appear better than new! A proper red pinstripe highlights the body once again along with the refinished wheels. The gauges are original and reflect what is believed to be 38,726 original miles on the odometer driven by the dealership staff much earlier in this car’s life. The body is unbelievably solid and tight, totally rust free, without any signs of ever having spent a day outdoors!
While in the hands of it first official, registered owner, it received a several upgrades to enhance the car’s road worthiness and usability. Partly due to the lack of engine use, the factory 216ci engine had some issues internally which was going to force an overhaul. It was decided to transplant a newer generation 250ci Inline 6 cylinder in place of the original. Enhancements now provide 7 crankshaft main bearings, hydraulic lifters with stamped & stud mounted rocker arms, better combustion chamber, cast in bell housing to accommodate more transmission choices, harmonic damper with cast in pulleys, HEI ignition, alternator charging system, smoother overall operation, along with lighter overall weight on the front end. In addition to this improved power plant, the transmission was swapped for a Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed automatic with a Lokar shifter on the floor. Underneath the car, you will see a new Mustang II style subframe, new motor mounts, tubular upper & lower control arms, ventilated power disc brakes, power rack & pinion steering, and anti-sway bar! All brake components, suspension components, fresh radial tires, polyethylene fuel tank, fuel lines, brake lines, etc. are all new. Today, it starts with a flick of the key, and powers down the road better than any Chevrolet from the same era, all while retaining a perfectly stock appearance overall! A very well executed transformation to become an excellent parade car, daily driver, or classic touring candidate for weekend shows!
This car hails from the collection of Grammy awarded singer, song writer Ray Lamontagne, whose tasteful collection is one of the best, mainly showcasing his appetite for incredible vintage motorcycles! As a collector with particular criteria for excellence, this car should not disappoint. From acquisition to completion, more than $65,000 was spent to bring this Chevrolet to a high caliber level of both showmanship, and roadworthiness.
