The single-minded mission of a dedicated individual exhibits itself frequently in sheetmetal, and this 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS is an excellent example. Beautifully finished, it demonstrates a level of unity and consistency throughout that's truly impressive, giving it a mild custom look combined with modern tech underneath that transforms the car's entire personality. The first impression you get when you see this Chevelle is that it looks sleek. Not just clean, but as if the wind had peeled off all the unnecessary stuff. Maybe it's the vivid Cranberry Red paint, black stripes, and the cowl induction hood, but this car just looks fast standing still. Whoever did the bodywork took their time and got it right, because it's straight and expertly finished with a fantastic gloss to the two-stage paint. There's a blacked-out grille up front, complete with SS emblems, but otherwise the bodywork is uncomplicated save for Chevelle script on the deck lid, just in case nobody recognizes the four round taillights. All the chrome is nicely finished, too, adding to the car's brilliant presentation that will attract a lot of fans out on the show field as well as on the highway. The bottom line? This sucker looks amazing! They went the extra mile inside, too, where you'll find a fully reupholstered bucket seat interior. High back buckets are a neat find, and they add to the car's perfect blend of old and new. Matching door panels were installed at the same time, incorporating the stock armrest and SS emblems so onlookers will have a hard time knowing what's OEM and what's custom. There's a custom center console with a modern shifter for the 6-speed manual gearbox underneath, as well as a pair of cup holders. The dash has been covered in carbon fiber and filled with Dakota Digital gauges that look right in the vintage A-body. There's also a custom billet wheel and matching aluminum pedals, with a Vintage Air A/C system keeping everything cool. In back, the trunk is neatly trimmed with custom bulkheads that give it a finished look without killing storage space. Nice!Modern technology makes this Chevelle feel decades younger and it's likely that the LS2 V8 living under the hood today is a lot more powerful than anything that would have been there originally. It's a neat fit and the installation is super sanitary, retaining the original fuel injection system so it starts easily and idles properly, even when it's cold, and this sucker pulls like a freight train out on the road. The hoses and wiring are routed through the fenders to keep the engine bay super sanitary and the A/C system features new hoses, condenser, and dryer with an electric fan that maintains airflow when you need it most. The aforementioned 6-speed manual makes this car feel more like a modern Camaro than a vintage Chevelle, and with towering overdrive gears and EFI, fuel economy is pretty darned impressive, too. Out back, a heavy-duty 12-bolt axle shrugs off the horsepower, and while it isn't detailed for show, this car is impressively solid and clean underneath. Lowering springs give it that wicked stance, and polished Boss Motorsports wheels wearing 245/45/18 front and 275/40/18 radials stuff the wheel wells. If you're tired of the same-old, same-old, perhaps this sizzling red Chevelle will speak to you.
