1951 Chevy Deluxe Panel Truck

Sat in the desert sun for over 30 years before I with much time, effort and cost, brought it back to life. I like old vehicles as they are, old, so I just got it back to good running and driving condition. Put about 500 trouble free miles on it. Leave as is or build what you like with it. Would easily make a great rat rod or build your dream custom the way you want it, but in the meantime you can drive it to shows or wherever and enjoy it as is.

Roof, hood, doors and body very straight with just surface rust. Its possible the doors were replaced as paint or what is left of it appears different. As can be seen in pictures there are some minor dents in the fenders and some rot in the usual places. This is the rare Deluxe version with chrome trim. You can see that the windshield trim and dash trim is in great condition and door trim okay. Have most but not all the chrome body trim, so have not bothered to install it. Wood floor is in good condition.

A 235 ci six which according to casting numbers originated from a 1957 Chevy came with the truck so I just went with that. Have receipts verifying previous owner had the motor rebuilt in 1991. Motor was always covered and holes plugged to keep out the bugs. Paint is same as when it was rebuilt and you can see it is still quite good. Previous owner stated that engine was turned over by hand and cylinders oiled on regular basis to prevent rusting. In bringing this vehicle back to life the dried out valve cover, side cover, front seal and cover, and oil pan gaskets were replaced, bottom end inspected (nice cross hatch in cylinders helped to confirm it was rebuilt) and valve lash was checked and in spec. It appears the previous owner had obtained most of the parts needed to convert to the 235. Transmission is a 4 speed of unknown origin. It has granny first, a PTO and driveshaft brake drum so I am guessing it’s out of a 1-1/2 or 2 ton? Trans, bell housing, clutch assembly and the driveshaft were in the back of the truck when obtained. Replaced gear oil, new throw out bearing and u joints and it all bolted right up.

New parts include but not limited to, one wire alternator (12 volt battery), aluminum radiator(original included, it has small leak), water pump, hoses and belt, plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor and points, fuel pump, fuel lines, filter, oil filter, oil lines, throw-out bearing, u-joints, rear axle oil, gasket, bearings and seals, front wheel bearings(tapered) and seals, new master cylinder, new brake cylinders, hardware, shoes and hoses front and back, front shocks, starter relay and battery cables, rebuilt carb, manual choke, driver side mirror, headlights and speedometer cable. Water pump pulley changed out to larger size as necessary for conversion to 235. All new glass, seals, channels and felt, however wing vent frames original. Added tachometer so I could set idle and see what revs it is turning. Can easily cruise at 55 mph, if you don't mind the minor rattles as could be expected from an old truck. Have new door weatherstripping which I have yet to install...should help with the rattles as currently there is no weatherstripping. Driver’s seat was obtained from an old Chevy van (appears re-covered). Apparently this model only had a driver’s seat. Have a matching passenger seat but did not install. New 215-70-15 rear tires added since pictures taken. Wheels are 15 inch rusty chrome reverse. Comes with pair of the original wheels with tires as in picture. Speedo reads a bit low even with tires one inch shorter than stock, so likely due to non-stock trans. Got a voltage reducer and will attempt to get gas gauge working next week. No wiper blades installed but I do have what appears to be original mechanism and arms which came with the truck when I got it and other misc. parts which are included on request.

I have described condition in length and as best I can with what information I have. That said, this vehicle is 67 years old and I have only had it a short time so this vehicle is sold as-is and where-is with no warranty as to condition or any statement herein whether stated or implied. Sale is Final.

This vehicle is currently titled and registered in Texas with classic plates. It is currently located in Southern California and available for showing.

If you send a transporter to pick it up, I will be as flexible as I can to meet transporter where vehicle is now located but I am not able to deliver. As stated in shipping information, payment in full required before truck is released.
