1966 Chevrolet C-10 Custom Cab Additional Info:
I am going to test the waters here with my prized BARN FIND 1966 Chevy C10 SHORT bed Fleetside. This truck was bought new at Bridges-Calvert Chevrolet in Warrier Alabama in February of 1966 by the owner on the protect-o-plate in the glovebox. Original owners guide is also in there. I am the second ever registered owner. It had only 45,242 original miles on it when it was pulled from the dry barn in Cordova Alabama in January after having been driven there and parked in 1987 by the original owner. I carried it to the mechanic shop where they changed fluids, installed a new battery, fuel pump, water pump and did a normal tune up and when they connected the battery we were all astounded to see every single battery powered item work - both factory original T3 headlights, all guages, heater, 2 speed wipers, even the cigar lighter element was good and worked! We fired the numbers and date codes matching original 283 V8 up and it purred like a kitten. Gas tank was clean and did not need replacement, clutch still was in excellent shape, taillights and turn signals all worked flawlessly. What surprised me the most was how sweet the three speed transmission and steering column operated - flawless crisp shifts you could only get from a low mileage truck. Ball joints and steering parts working flawlessly with a tight ride I'd never witnessed before. Just like driving a brand new 66 pickup - I still can't believe it when I drive it. Been on a 200+ mile round trip to Coker Tire in Chattanooga for their Spring show, and several other 30-90 mile one way rides. Everybody wants to buy it when I slide up to the cruise ins and car show parking lots - several strong offers were made, but I really didnt want to sell, and really still don't, but I am a collector and have over 10 personal trucks like this I generally never sell, and I really could use the money to get another more important collection truck into the body shop or in driving shape, so I will let this one go to the right buyer.
