This 1957 Chevrolet 3100 pickup isn't over-the-top aggressive, but it has the right look to get all kinds of attention at shows and on the street. There's also a great-running small block V8 under the hood and an upgraded suspension that makes it feel far more agile than you'd expect for a pickup truck. If you want a cool custom hauler you can drive anywhere, this is a fantastic choice.Chevy took a very big step forward with their all-new pickups, giving them car-like good looks without losing the toughness that made their pickups famous. The result was a styling home-run that's still gorgeous today, a perfect '50s look that actually makes an old pickup truck look fast. The finish is very nicely done, needing nothing to really wow 'em at shows, and if you look closely you'll see just a hint of metallic that really makes it stand out. Oh, sure, there are a few custom touches like the shaved emblems up front, flush-fitting fuel door, and LED taillights, all of which contribute to this truck's awesome look. As you'd expect, the bed is beautifully refinished with lovely honey-colored oak and stainless rub strips, and we're pretty sure it hasn't worked for a living for a long, long time. Big chrome bumpers look like they come from the automotive line as well, and if it's shiny, it's been polished to a high shine, making this truck look sharply dressed. The interior has been skillfully updated with black leather buckets from a late-model truck. The bright, airy cabin is helped by those big windows, and like the exterior, it's a fantastic combination of black and shiny trim. Dakota Digital gauges fill the instrument panel, which looks like it has a lot in common with the '57 Bel Air, and the center of the dash has been modified to handle the HVAC controls and a pair of power outlets. A tilt steering column is topped by a Grant steering wheel with a performance look, and it almost perfectly frames the V-shaped instrument pod. Black carpets help control noise and heat and look great, giving the interior a more upscale vibe that it lacked when it was new. It's also got a modern AM/FM/CD stereo stashed in the glove box and managed by remote so the dash didn't have to be cut up. It isn't fancy and retains its truck-like utility, but the softened edges inside make it an easy place to spend some time. You could buy these trucks with small block V8s in them from the factory, so the 350 cubic inch crate motor that's in there now is a perfect fit. It looks fantastic with a few chrome and billet aluminum dress-up pieces like the ball-milled air cleaner and valve covers, and someone obviously put in some extra time hiding the wiring and plumbing in the fender wells. Chevy Orange paint always looks right in an old Chevy, and there's a serpentine belt drive system for the accessories, so it's reliable and stylish. With the 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission, it's a breeze to drive around town and fantastic on the highway, even with the original rear end out back. A custom stainless steel dual exhaust system has a great V8 sound without being annoying, and thanks to a modern A-arm suspension up front, this truck has power rack-and-pinion steering and 4-wheel Wilwood power disc brakes. 17-inch custom wheels wear a bright polish job and 245/65/17 Goodyear radials.A neat old truck that has been sensibly modified for today's world without forgetting that the charm of an old vehicle is in reliving the past.
