1965 Chevrolet Corvette Additional Info:
For Sale: Beautiful 1965 Corvette Fuel Injected 327/375 HP 4 speed coupe in Nassau Blue with a blue interior, ready to show or drive. Numbers matching, two time Bloomington Silver award winner. Very nice #2 condition, with only 3,500 miles since restoration in the 1980's. Features include side pipes and knock-off wheels. Always stored in climate-controlled garage and carefully maintained over the years. Over $12,000 spent in the last few years freshening up the car, including $3,600 complete fuel injection rebuild by Jerry Bramlett, extensive tune-up service, fluid service, and new tires, brakes, wheels, and battery.
This car belonged to my late father, who was a mega Corvette enthusiast. He collected over 100 Corvettes in his lifetime, and had as many as 30 at one time. At one point, in the 1970's, he had in his collection an example of every year from 1953 to 1972. He even started a Corvette mail order aftermarket, high performance company in the early 1960's, called Hypo Inc., later known as Action Performance. This Corvette was always one of his favorites, and is the very last car of his extensive collection. He purchased this car in the early 1990's and drove it very sparingly over the years.
Over the last two years, this car has undergone an extensive freshening of it's mechanical components, with service/repair/parts receipts for over $10,000. The fuel injection unit was completely overhauled by Rochester Fuel Injection guru Jerry Bramlett, which included dyno and road testing in his car before shipping. When re-installed on this car, it started immediately and idled and ran perfectly after only setting the timing. It accelerates like Jack the Bear! It is run on 110 octane race gas only, per Jerry's recommendations for best driveability and performance. We have added a new set of Rallye wheels and radial tires, which are currently mounted on the car, so it can enjoyed safely. The original knock-off wheels and correct bias ply tires also come with the car. The bias ply tires cosmetically appear very nice, but because they are thirty years old, they should be used for display purposes only. Extensive tune up parts include spark plugs, correct dated spark plug wires, coil, distributor cap, rotor, M&H electronic ignition trigger (replacing the points), condenser, vacuum diaphragm, fuel pump, fuel filter, gas hoses, and battery. The radiator has been flushed, and refilled, along with a new correct overflow tank. The oil filter and oil have been changed with a zinc additive included. The front brake calipers have been rebuilt, and the front brake hoses replaced along with a complete brake fluid flush. Compression on all cylinders was recently verified to be between 185 - 200 PSI (hot). The ignition top shielding is currently installed on the car- it is off in the above photos just for a final timing check.
Cosmetically, the car shows very nicely with it's desirable Nassau Blue exterior and blue interior. The under carriage is very clean, with minimal wear. Although this car was restored thirty years ago, it still looks quite nice throughout. There are some minor paint defects consistent with it's sparing use. It has just enough patina that you would not be afraid to drive it and enjoy it with vigor but still presents nice enough to take to any car show.
The car is very correct throughout, with matching numbers. In 1986, it earned Bloomington Silver Certification with 93.2 points. In 1987, it was again judged Bloomington Silver Certification with 96.3 points. It would have earned Bloomington Gold, but for the points deduction for the engine number pad. The judges noted "Engine number pad VIN appears correct but date and suffix is incorrectly repo. Lack of broach marks, incorrect length of # group, incorrect character style."
Overall, this is a beautiful car which could be driven as it should be, but also can be displayed with great pride. The car is located near Dubuque, Iowa, and is about a three hour drive from O'Hare airport in Chicago. Bidders are encouraged to see the car in person. There would someone available to show the car Friday May 19-Saturday May 20 and Thursday May 25-Friday May 26. Because of the short time frame of the auction, and that I have to drive six hours from Indianapolis to show the car, I understand many bidders would not be able to see the car before the auction closing. To accommodate this, the top bidder will not be required to make a deposit. I would simply ask that the top bidder make arrangements to see the car in person at a mutually agreeable time after the auction. If the car does not meet your expectations, you can walk away from the deal.
Bidders are encouraged to contact me at 317-446-7404 with additional questions, or through eBay. It is best to text first, as I cannot answer the phone at work. I also have over 150 high-resolution photos of the car's exterior, interior, engine compartment and under carriage, which I can provide. I can also provide copies of the 1986 and 1987 Bloomington Gold judging sheets.
This car is sold as is, where is, with no warranties implied or written. The car is for sale locally, and bidding may be ended early at any time. No trades will be considered, so please do not contact me with trade offers. Do not contact me requesting the reserve price.
