The SEMA Show. That is all that needs to be said to explain the love, passion, blood, sweat, and tears that create a world wind of emotions for attendees and builders. SEMA 2015 was by far one of the most life-changing experiences for us at Finish Line Speed Shop. It’s a ride we will never forget. After successfully building the project “Dream Dart” for disabled Veteran, Steve Connor, and his wife Keri, we have decided that we would like to start a tradition of “Project Giving Back”, for each SEMA Show.

Tragically, the week we returned home after SEMA 2015, we lost our good friend, Mark Cain of Cain Custom in Bremerton, Washington to ALS. Mark was a local LEGEND in our car community. He truly was the man, the myth and the legend. This year we have chosen to give back to ALS through a SEMA 2016 build. We are doing it for, as Mark’s wife Sandy would say… “THE THRILL OF THE BUILD”.

Lyon can remember from the young age of 19, through the build of the Dream Dart, Mark never hesitated to offer his help with numerous projects. That went for anyone; Mark thought nothing of dropping everything to help a friend in need at any time. We are blessed to be able to honor this great man by giving to others as he always gave so much to his family and friends. Mark was the true “car guy” and didn't let ALS stop him. ALS affected him to the point where he could no longer speak, but there he was at EVERY car show walking around typing on his tablet or writing to communicate. Really, he didn’t need to say much; the sparkle in his eye and nod of approval when he looked at cars was enough. His legacy lives on as we work together to assist other families currently battling this ugly disease.

What is ALS? Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that destroys motor neurons, which are among the largest of all nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Motor neurons are responsible for sending messages to muscles throughout the body. When the motor neurons can no longer send impulses to the muscles due to ALS, the muscles begin to waste away (atrophy), causing increased muscle weakness. Motor neuron death makes it impossible for the brain to control muscles or signal them to move.

Eventually, most muscles are affected including those of the legs, feet, arms, hands, and those that control swallowing and breathing.

Our desire was to build a head-turning 1975 Chevrolet C10. Our SEMA 2016 build is dedicated to trying to "Strike Out ALS". Proceeds from the sale will be donated to A.L.S. in Mark's honor.
