Up for auction is a very rare 1958 Chevy Napco Factory 4x4 Truck. It's a Apache, Fleetside, short-wheelbase truck in fine condition. It was found on a Southern California Ranch and live in Texas for a few years before I bought it and brought it home. The truck drives really well, straight as an arrow,starts and stops as it should...Brake works extremely well.Everything works, all lights & gauges, horn, signals, speedo, E brake ect...except the heater( its just by passed) the core was rebuilt. The truck has the original 6 cylinder w/factory 4 speed. The previous owner said the 14 k were original but I have no way to prove. The truck was re-painted once to the original color ( Tartan Turquoise ). The firewall and inside the bed still retain the original paint. There is no rust I can find anywhere on the truck. Very, Very solid!!The paint still shines nicelyandhas little dings,nicks and blemishes here and there.. it has that right "nicely worn" look people try to fake.The interior looks great, has 3lap belts and a amazing old gun rack. The wood in the bed is original& solid as a rock. It also has a very rare bed mountedaccessoryspare tire holder. All 5 tires are basically newand also have the right look for this vintage 4wd. Original wheels and caps too. The truck is a real factory Napco and has the Plaque on the door jam to prove it. It has a California Title in my name and currently registered. This is a great example of an unalteredNAPCO that's ready to drive, off road orjust stare at. It's not an over restored truck that you are to afraid to drive...it's readyto hit TheMohave today!These trucks are becoming very hard to find and even tougher in California. The vintage truck market has sky rocketed and old 4x4's have gotteneven crazier. I will end the auction at anytimefor a local Cash sale or buy it now. NAPCO HISTORY: From 1956 to 1959 the NAPCO Power-Pak option could be ordered directly from GM (an official RPO 690 was assigned in 1957) and factory installed on trucks with very few modifications to the original chassis. The 1955 4â—Š4 NAPCO GMC or Chevrolet was a $1250.00 to $1550.00 optional add on. The 1957 Chevrolet and GMC 3100 4x4 price was a bargain at $2549.00 compared to the earlier add on kits. In 1960 NAPCO and GM parted ways when GM redesigned the front suspension on their 1960 pickup line so that it wasn't easily compatible with the existing Power-Pak kits.
Prior to 1955 NAPCO Power-Pak conversions were done on 3/4 and one ton GMC and Chevrolet chassis. The Pre-19551/2 ton chassis used an incompatible "torque tube" drive. In the fall of 1954 GMC and Chevrolet changed the 19551/2 ton pickup and Suburban models to the compatible Hotchkiss drive. Today these trucks are still considered to be very versatile and durable 60 years later and are considered to be collectible by NAPCO enthusiasts.
