The best of the last! That's what the '62 Corvette is often referred to. By '62, first generation production was coming to an end after 11 years. The designers and engineers a the St Louis plant had taken the C1 about as far as they could in its current configuration. A new Corvette was on the horizon for '63 and excitement was brewing for the first ever Corvette Coupe that was due to be introduced along with the next generation Convertible. But there was still a few surprises in store for those who chose to purchase a '62. First was the overall clean and uncluttered appearance of the '62's exterior. Those venerable sidecoves were still in place, but the stainless surrounding it was gone. And you could no longer get it in a contrasting color. In place of the missing trim was a ribbed rocker panel molding. The second change was the increase in cubic inches . . . and horsepower in the engine compartment with the introduction of the 327 small block. Gone were the optional dual quad set-up. But in their place was a choice of new 4 engines. The milder base 250hp and 300hp with hydraulic lifters to the wilder 340hp carb'd and 360hp Fuel Injected offerings with mechanical lifters. Any of these choices were guaranteed to give you nothing but a great driving experience all the way around!
This very cool '62 has been beautifully frame-up restored and is very correct. From its stunning Roman Red exterior, complemented by its matching interior to its correct #'s matching 340hp engine. Optioned with rare power windows and both hard and soft tops. It's also an N.C.R.S. Top Flight Award winner! Everything works as it should. Even the clock! This '62 would do well as a weekend cruiser, show car . . . or both!
