1987 Chevrolet C-10 Additional Info:
Where do I start?? I drove this truck off the showroom floor of McIlroy Chevrolet in Celina, Texas on May 19, 1987. My first baby. We call her 'Big Red'. Has many offers over the years at red lights and parking lots to buy her.
Just at this 30 year mile marker to see whats out there. Sigh...Always said I would drive her til the wheels fell off.
Miles: Just turned 240k. All mine except when my brother got married in San Francisco in 1993 and I let him drive it from there to their new home in Montpelier, VA.
First 180k from 87-97, then average of 3k a year from 1997 to now.
Original: Floor mats, Rubber Bed Liner, Chrome Rims, Sliding Rear Window, Chrome Bed Rails.
Original Paint: Home every night in a garage since 1997. As the Lord is my witness, I drove it off the showroom floor when I was 19 years old (I still have the registration receipt dated May 19, 1987)...about 6 months later, a friend pointed out to me that the driver side panel over the tire and the door panel were slightly different shades of red. I did not appreciate her pointing out a flaw and I still loved it so much, I didn't even bother to call McIlroy. It was unnerving though to think I had bought a brand new truck, yet the different shades?? No answer, I just think it adds to her mystery but want to divulge as you may notice seeing in person. Also, as seen in pics, has wear at the front of the hood, passenger side. Also, within last 3 years, same wear on roof. I never wanted to have it touched up or even repainted. I felt like it wasn't bad enough to change the original paint, so I've left it and figured the next owner can do what he/she wants to with it.
Interior: Carpet in great shape.
Replaced: Had to cover velour bench seat because driver side seat area started to wear thin. It's still there, I just covered it with a blanket seat cover. Replaced radio with a Kenwood stereo and added door speakers and an equalizer. Added window tinting to spare interior from sun. Armorall'd vinyl dash and doors religiously. All looks perfect except on the dash where the little holes for the speakers are at...a few of those cracked out.
Tires: Michelin LTX M/S. 235/75R15. 2 new at 3/4/11-223,224 mi. and other 2 new at 4/11/12-226,838 mi. Only Michelin. Drove my last set of 4 for the full 60k miles! They lasted me 12 years.
Body- In 30 years, 2 minor incidents only (by me); In 1991, I clipped (of all things) a classic Corvette over his right front tire, didn't even scratch my chrome fender. Then someone rear ended me at a red light, not major but enough that I needed a new bumper. I like the one I have way better than the original anyhow. In 1993, I backed into the short pole (that protected a phone booth, that's how long ago haha) at a 7-11. It curled the end
of my bumper in a little on the drivers side and is still there. Also, just noticed this week that someone must have clipped my right bumper corner and curled it in and dinged the chrome strip on my tail light but did not
damage my tail light at least.....and of course drove off! I had washed it just days before and it was not there. I would have seen it, so that was just this past week :(( Maybe 'cause of my TEAM TRUMP sticker??
Engine: Converted A/C in July 2000, still working great. Rebuilt tranny in August 2005, rebuilt differential in March 2016. (Eagle Transmission in Plano for both). Recently replaced muffler.
Have only used Pennzoil 10W30 since 1987.
Ticks-: A) Around 1990, the steering wheel column started to have some up and down movement, and because I didn't know any better, I let a friend of a friend 'fix' it in his garage...which he did, but in the process, forgot to
hook back up the cruise control! I rarely used it, so I didn't want someone to tear it back down to hook it back up and risk making it even worse. So it probably works, it just needs reconnected.
B) The left hand turn signal works, but it does not go back by its self after you turn left. I have to turn it off. When you turn right, it works fine.
C) The button that switches the fuel tanks back and forth quit working years ago. The driver side fuel tank is the only one I fill. My mom drove it once and forgot and filled up both tanks! I never had it drained and I
found out fairly recently it has 'jellified' in there. I have just left it alone.
D) The passenger seat belt wanted to lock up and not release, so I jimmy rigged it with a tube to hold the release button in place. It works just fine now and is secure.
I've tried to think of everything. a lot happens in 30 years! There is a clear Texas title in my name. I will be filling out the back of the title so will not sell with open title. I also will not release with any plates. If you need to drive home and are out of town, please obtain a temporary tag. Cash or Cashiers Check only. Message with any questions. Thanks!
