1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport Additional Info:
We are offering a very original 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 Hardtop Coupe that has 98% of original sheet metal, and has the ORIGINAL, FACTORY ASSEMBLY-LINE ENGINE still installed in the car (Not a re-stamp, or any other "kinda-original" engine terms).Other than this original engine (more discussion below under paragraph "CONDITION", ....the factory installed options include :
Black Vinyl TopFront Bucket Seat Interior with Console (original clock still in console but is non-working)Extra gauge dash package, plus original Knee Knocker Tachometer (original to this car)Factory Air Conditioning (unassembled and in boxes with no guaranty of completeness, or viability to replace to workable condition)Tinted Glass All Around(likely all original glass still in this car)Power Steering (factory installed)Four Speed Transmission (factory installed)AM Push-Button Radio (working)Was originally a California-ordered AIR Smog-Pump car, but the Pump, brackets, & tubes were removed decades ago.
Odometer currently shows 47,446 miles. The car had 43,383 miles when purchased out of a barn 17 years ago (and driven home 175 miles) Family has put just a little over 4,000 miles on the car in past 17 years.
CONDITION: The car has had one repaint approximately 22 or 23 years ago, so has road chips, scratches, and quite frankly, is ready for another repaint. We think the current paint is possibly Urethane, but that is just a guess. Inside the door-jam are original factory acrylic lacquer, as is under hood and trunk. Very, very little surface rust, with no visible rust-repair damage that I have found. Floor-pans, and trunk Pan is original factory assembly-line sheet metal. The only body steel that is not assembly-line, is one front fender that was replaced in the late 1960s, with a GM replacement part (experts can tell the difference, and we had the car examined by a few top experts). the runs,... starts instantly, runs very well & smooth, and drives extremely nice for a 51 year old muscle car. Windows crank well, heater blows on one speed, radio working, air conditioning has had original factory parts removed from engine, and willbe provided to buyer in a cardboard box. the firewall still has the factory installed plate for Factory Air Conditioning. We offer the parts AS-IS, the same as the entire car. I'll discuss the drivetrain in a second paragraph entitled "DRIVETRAIN"....... By the way, pulled it out of the shop today to photograph it,and she purred to life like a kitten... The ORIGINAL VIN plate, and Trim Tag both still installed, as the day they were put on during it's roll down the assembly line..... The "Hidden" VIN stampings all match.
DRIVETRAIN: As verified by more than one early Chevelle Super Sport expert, the 396 cubic inch V8 engine is the factory assembly-line installed engine that this Chevelle was born with in early April of 1966, at the Fremont, California (Z-code) plant.. To our knowledge, it has never been "bored".The four-speed Muncie transmission is a salvage (replacement) unit that was re-installed in the car sometime during the 1970s. It is coded along with date code for a 1969 Chevelle 4-speed. Once again, this Muncie is NOT original installed to this car. If I remember correctly, it is a M-21, but not certain about that. The shifter is the factory-installed Muncie Shifter with operating reverse lock-out pull-up handle. Transmission shifts smoothly, with slight synchronizer ring wear you can feel. Nothing serious, but won't last 10 more years of driving daily. The rear-end differential is likewise a salvage (replacement) unit, that is NOT original to this car. It was also re-installed from a complete salvage-purchased 3rd member in the 1970s. It was in the car when we bought it 17 years ago. Currently running non-posi3:08 gears, so is very driver-friendly, yet still plenty of torque from that monster big-block 396.

Questions" ask BEFORE BIDDING. repeat, .....ask BEFORE BIDDING.
WARRANTY or GUARANTY: The car is sold AS-IS, WHERE-IS with no warranty offered, given, expressed, or implied. It is a 51 year old muscle car, and the purchase is YOUR risk. If you don't understand an AS-IS sale of an automobile, please ask us before bidding and we will be happy to explain what that means.
FAQ (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS): we are happy to answer brief questions about the car submitted by serious potential buyers. The actual PRINCIPAL PARTY, not agents, salesmen. historians, internet experts, tire-kickers, people seeking to list the car on their website, or internet sales offering, etc. Inquires from the just-named list wastes both parties time. Sorry, but we simply will not waste our time with them. We WILL NOT LIST this car with anyone seeking such listing, period. NO exceptions, period. Hope this is crystal-clear.PleaseNO story-tellers, internet experts on Chevelles,, ....or online tire-kickers. We seek aSERIOUS principal, self-fundedbuyer looking to buy a car of this quality.
SHIPPING: .....NONE OFFERED, in fact to be more clear, we will NOT SHIP THE CAR, period. If you want to bring your hired transport agent, then bring that person along with YOU, as a PRINCIPAL BUYER who hands over the cash balance owed for the car.
TITLE: the car has a clear OKLAHOMA title that is registered in the owner/seller's name with NO LIENS. Oklahoma is not a title-holding state, so this Certificate of Title will be signed in front of a notary, and presented to buyer after FULL CASH PAYMENT in US DOLLARS is completed. You will also be given a signed Bill of Sale that confirms the car has been paid for with cash, and is sold AS-IS with no Guaranty. The license plate also stays on the car until you retitle in your state of residence. I will not give an "open" title, only one signed over to the new buyer.
PHOTOGRAPHS: we will attach some good photos of the car on this auction listing. Some may ask "why not include 100 photos, or even 50 photos". We believe that only a fool buys a car off of internet photographs, and that any SERIOUS BUYER PRINCIPAL would come and inspect the car in person. Plain & simple. We've owned muscle cars including some extremely rare models since 1969, and we inspected every single one in person before purchasing. please don't ask us to send you an entire pictorial of the car to you. If serious, come view the car. We are located in the center of the country, easily accessible to all other 47 continental states. We also have a large municipal airport (Tulsa International Airport), that we could pick up a serious buyer at. This airport is mere miles from our home or shop. We apologize if our tone is a little harsh, but we've owned, enjoyed, ad sold many of these cars. Quite frankly, we've seen many more tire-kickers, or internet experts by far,..... than serious buyers. We are serious sellers, ......we only want serious buyers.
QUESTIONS: PLEASE ask before bidding. The only "foolish" question is the one that should have been asked, yet wasn't. One quick possible question we might answer for you right here is "will we consider less than the minimum bid amount"...... That answer is a very firm NO.
THANKS for viewing our auction listing. We hope the person out there that has loved, and always wanted a very original Chevelle Super Sport such as this one, ......BUYS, during this rare opportunity.
Update 7:27pm pst March 8th, 2017: to mass answer many repeated questions, (1) the 3:08 rear end is not a posi unit, ...(2) the trim tag correctly identifies marina blue exterior paint, the black vinyl top, and black bucket-seat interior. ...(3) why am I selling? .... I bought a barn-find, 43,000 mile 1967 Corvette 427 tri-power convertible, which is under a full frame-off restoration. That car has nearly "broke" me, and it's restoration isn't finished. Wife says this car goes, ....or she goes (and she'll take the dog)
2nd Update 8:30am pst March 10th, 2017: I have received cash offers BELOW our minimum opening bid amount. We are NOT considering any offers below the $27,500.00 minimum bid, and if we fail to successfully sell this car on this one & only auction listing, will enter the car in a Classic Car Auction in June.
3rd Update 8:05am pst March 13th, 2017: to satisfy multiple questions I wanted to answer publicly that YES this is a 13817 coded real Super sport as shown on the factory installed VIN tag, as well as the "hidden" VIN stampings. On the engine block pad stamp, the engine code is "EH" which correlates to an L35 325 horsepower 396 ci engine, with a manual transmission, and A.I.R. (air injection reactor smog pump system. The Trim Tag as stated above in the description confirms the marina blue paint with black bucket seat interior. Thanks to all for very good questions, and special thanks to those who have taken the time to drive to Tulsa & inspect the car in person.
