A fabulous car that was the subject of a thorough professional restoration, no costs were spared to have every tiny screw and nut correct and in its place. The original, numbers correct 327/340 HP powerplant was one of the top dogs back in '62 and when you put your foot down it pulls like a thoroughbred wanting to go full out. The 4-speed manual gearbox shifts nicely -- smooth and firm, and the car is certainly comfortable with the acceleration it produces. This fine example of a very clean, impressively correct and highly original Corvette will be a pleasure to own - getting thumbs up whenever it's seen. The first generation of Corvettes are known for their rounded edges, scalloped sides (starting in 1956) and classic elegance. All Corvettes made between 1953 and 1962 are highly sought-after, and there's a subset of Corvette enthusiasts who claim the '62 (with its blacked-out grille and new rocker panel molding) to be the greatest Corvette ever. It was certainly the best of the first-generation, solid-rear-axle Corvettes. 1962 was also the last year for the wrap around windshield, solid rear axle, and convertible-only body style. The trunk lid and exposed headlamps did not reappear for many decades.
