1971 Chevrolet El Camino SS454 Super Sport Trim Package Additional Info:

Up for auction this week is a beautifully restored 1971 Chevrolet SS El Camino. An original California car with the very rare and desirable SS454 engine and trim package.

This Super Sport Chevrolethas been almost completely refurbished, andis in very good condition. Starting with a new (not rebuilt) Chevrolet crate 454 with 4 bolt mains and an upgraded competition cams Extreme Energy Cam256 style camshaft. The engine starts right up in all weather conditions, idles very smoothly, with just a bit of old school lumpiness, and pulls incredibly hard from below idle speeds to a 5500 rpm redline. This hydraulic roller camshaft has amellow duration, and was selected for smoother performance with great horsepower andtorque (up to 500 ft. lbs), and high engine vacuum for the power brakes and AC system, which is all vacuum controlled. The original Turbo 400 automatic transmission is freshly rebuilt, and the factory 12 bolt rear end with 3:36 gearshas been cleaned and re-sealed.

The suspension and drivelineis all new from the front to back, and includes an upgraded Pro-Touring stage II suspension upgrade from UMI Performance. The car handles amazingly well, and rides smooth with a quiet, controlled ride. The interior has been refreshed with a complete interior kit, including new carpet, seat cover, headliner, dash panel, door panels, dash pad, etc. The paint is beautiful with a true base coat and clear coat, with the stripes under the clear. The body had been sanded to bare metal, and all metal work was accomplished with minimal filler.

There are almosttoo many new parts to list, and include the following: bumpers, stainless steel bed trim, tires, shocks, master cylinder, brake booster, rubber brake lines, disk brake calipers, rotors, bearings, seals, front and rear tubular control arms, all steering arms, tie rods, center link, drag link, ball joints, driveshaft, u-joints,rear 8" rallye wheels, windshield wiper motor and washer, windshield, door panels, window and door seals, visors, parking brake cables front and rear, performance intake manifold, long tube headers, dual custom exhaust, sport mirrors with drivers side remote, Retro Sound I-phone compatible Radio with kick panel speakers, 3 point locking safety belts, courtesy lighting and dome lamp, door hinges, hood hinges, hood latch, Aluminum Desert Cooler radiator, water pump, fuse block and wiring, engine wiring, electric fuel pump, fan shroud, chrome radiator cover, heater hoses, belts, battery and cables, heater core, fan blower motor, rubber vacuum hoses for AC controls, inner fenders, oversized performance sway bars, KYB GTR shocks, Cooper cobra tires, and much, much more. As you can see, we have way over $30,000 invested, but we have no illusions of grandeur regarding the sale price, and the reserve has been lowered for a quick sale before Christmas.

The AC system needs a new compressor and condenser, as it developed a leak, but the heater and defroster work great.I do have the old compressor and all the rest of the brackets still attached to it. The bed is pretty beat up compared to the rest of the car, and the headliner has a few wrinkles. There are a few chips in the paintnear the door edges and on the inner side of the hood on the passenger side. The back window has an older tint that may need to be redone. The clock recently stopped working, and one of the headrests has a smalltear in the vinyl, but I havenew covers ready to be installed. The storage box behind the seat is cracked. To the best of my knowledge theseare the only issues we have discovered over the 4 years of owning and driving the car.
