Here is your Black Friday Special if you are looking for a 55 Chevy !

Reserve price is well below investment. Reserve price is not a buy it now price.

We are hopeful bids will come closer to what we has invested. This is not a must sell, if the reserve is not met we are content to make room for the car & store it. This is a solid buy and a solid car.

Please read the entire description, the previous owner had spent a lot of time & money

on the car.

Body was reworked awhile back an unknown body shop. I would estimate the frame off restoration to have been done 15 to 20 years ago and keep in great shape since then.

The motor appears to be a late model 70's 350 V8 and 350 turbo automatic transmission.

Car is definitely an eye catcher & someone has poured a lot of money into it. Car runs great & rides/drives like an old car. This car is not a rotisserie restored car destined for SEMA or a national show car but is a very impressive driver/local car show quality vehicle that can be driven & is priced as such. This car is 61 years old so I highly recommend & prefer anyone interested come look at, inspect & drive the car prior to bidding. Please remember you are bidding to buy & not to come look at & make an offer. That will not happen. If you cannot come inspect then I recommend you have the vehicle inspected by a reputable inspection company, or find another car to buy.

Let me start by saying Happy Thanksgiving !

Decoding the Tri-Five Chevy 55 56 57 Passenger Car VIN

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): The VIN tag is located on a stainless steel plate that is spot welded to the driver's side front door jamb. Although, hard to see, Chevrolet also had the vehicle identification number stamped on the frame roughly below the drivers seat.

Decoding the VIN number:

Digit 1 - Model Type

The VIN may be ten or eleven characters long. The letter "V" before the first digit is the eleventh character, and denotes a V8 engine in the 1955 - 1957 cars. For cars originally equipped with a six cylinder engine, the "V" was omitted and the VIN would be only ten characters long rather than eleven..

I am providing some information that I found on line to help you do any research needed
Vin Tag

The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) tag is located on the drivers door front pillar post on. It's made of stainless steel and spot welded in place.

These few letters and numbers can give us a wealth of information regarding the history of our car.

A. If the VIN starts with a V, the car came with a V8 engine. The second letter is the model designation. If there is no V, the car came with a 6 cylinder engine
VA = 1500 (150) with V8 VB = 2100 (210) with V8 VC = 2400 (Bel Air) with V8
VD = 1508 (Sedan Delivery) with V8 VE = 2900 (Corvette) with V8

More in-depth descriptions of each model and series can be found HERE

B. These two numbers indicate the year of the car.

C. This one letter indicates the plant the car was assembled in:
A- Atlanta, GA B- Baltimore, MD F- Flint, MI J- Janesville, WI
K- Kansas City, MO L- Los Angeles, CA N- Norwood, OH O- Oakland, CA
S- Saint Louis, MO T- Tarrytown, NY

D. This is the serial number of the car, numbers were not duplicated at the same plant. In 1955 and 1956 the numbers were started at 1001 at each plant, 1957 started with 100001.

Example: My VIN shows a V8 equipped 1957 Bel Air assembled in Atlanta, GA and was the 19035 car built.

Cowl Tag

The cowl tag is made from aluminum and riveted to the firewall in the engine compartment.

Again much information can be gained about the car from this info.

On Nov-25-16 at 19:49:10 PST, seller added the following information:

The1955 Chevrolet(sometimes referred to as '55 Chevy) is an automobile that was made byChevroletin 1955. It is considered a huge turning point for the manufacturer and a major success. It was available in three models: the 150, 210, and Bel Air.

The '55 Chevy was the first successful Chevrolet with an optionalV8 engine. Chevrolet had produced an earlier car with a V8 in 1918 (Chevrolet Series D), which used a 36-horsepower and 288-cubic-inch V8, but it remained in production for only a year.[5]In 1955, Chevrolet decided to fit its new car with an overhead valve V8 engine design, which was similar to the 1949 Oldsmobile "Rocket 88" V8 engine. The new 265-cubic-inch overhead valve V8 was designed to be smaller, lighter, and more powerful than previous V8s in the auto industry.

The new "small block" in the '55 Chevy had its problems, however. It had no oil filter, and the factory could only add one externally—owners had to opt for an external oil filter. Those who did not order the engine with the "oil filter option" had dirty oil in a short amount of time. This was corrected for the next year. The new small block V8 had an easy maintenance, and it had a built-in ability to be upgraded. The small block Chevy V8 became so popular that Chevrolet still sells it today. Although there have been various changes made to the motor to modernize it, the basic design of the original 265 remains.

The 1955 Chevrolet also offered many other firsts for Chevrolet, including changing from a 6-volt to a 12-volt electrical system. The '55 offered new options like air conditioning, power windows, and even power seats; power steering and power brakes were also optional. Other options included automatic light dimmers, door handle protectors, bumper protectors and "wonder-bar" radios. So many new options were available that some referred to the car as "Chevy's little Cadillac." Never before had so many options been offered for a car in the low-price field.

The 55's top trim offering was the Bel-Air, which had more chrome than the 150 or 210. The Bel-Air and 210 could be bought with a post between the front and rear passenger windows, or without a post. Without a post it was known as a "Hardtop," which came only in a two-door and was not offered in a four-door hard top until 1956. The two-door hardtop was also known as the "Sport Coupe." Since the Sport Coupe had no post between the two side windows, it had a slightly shorter roof and longer rear deck. The Bel-Air was available in a convertible, with the same shorter roof and longer rear deck as the sport coupe. The convertible was offered in Bel-Air trim only. 1955 also saw the introduction of the Bel Air Nomad, a sporty two-door station wagon which featured frameless door glass and elongated side windows. The unique roof design of the Nomad came directly from the 1954 Corvette Nomad, a "dream car" designed to be shown at auto shows as a concept sport wagon. Although regarded as one of the most beautiful station wagon designs of Fifties, the Nomad sold poorly, partly due to its price tag (one of the most expensive models in the Bel Air lineup) as well as its lack of four doors.

The '55 offered a wide array of colors. One solid color, which was standard for the 150, could be had for the 210 or Bel Air...or nineteen different two-tone color combinations were also available.

Along with a standard column-mounted three speed Synchro-Mesh transmission, the buyer of a '55 Chevy could specify an optional Overdrive unit to go with the stickshift, or the fully automatic two-speed Powerglide transmission. Although most everything was new in 1955 for Chevrolet, the reliable Powerglide was mostly unchanged from '54.

Additionally, Chevrolet drastically changed its body design. It had smooth straight panels on the sides and hood, wrap-around glass on the windshield, and triangular tail lights that jutted outward. And this new look, combined with new power and engineering, made the '55 an instant hit and a critical success.

The car's popular "shoe-box" body style and chassis were carried over to 1956 (with changes to some of the front and rear aesthetics), and then carried over to 1957 (where the body was lengthened several inches in the rear and more drastic aesthetic changes were made).

Chevrolet retained the same body and chassis for the 1955, 56, and 57 model years. These years are extremely sought after by collectors and enthusiasts, and are often referred to by the given nickname of "tri-fives." The nickname "tri-fives" was given because there were three model years in the 1950s.

1955 Chevrolet Body Styles – In 1955 there were many changes in body design. Most distinguishing mark of the new 1955 Chevrolet bodies is their low slung silhouettes and vertical windshield pillars.

Broad, flat hood and trunk lids are approximately 3 1/2 inches lower than 1954, while the high straight crown of the fenders enhances an impression of quickness.

The new body styles for 1955 gave the cars the appearance of much greater length although wheel bases remained unchanged from 1954. Brand new among the 16 1955 Chevy Belair auto body styles are two door station wagons.
