1971 Chevrolet Nova Base Additional Info:
I owned this car previously and am helping a family member sell it - it has been in our family approximately 4 years. Although it is a very presentable driver, it is by no means a concourse show car. The work was started on the car around 5 years ago when it was painted and has probably had less than 2,000 miles put on it since that time. The description below details the work that has taken place since it was painted. It has been on multiple 50-mile or more trips recently with no issues. I feel the reserve is low compared to others I've seen sell recently in worse condition.
DRIVETRAIN - small block Chevy with Vortec heads and 700R4 transmission with a B&M shifter. It has a Holley carb and honestly I do not have the skills to tune it - I put a kit in it recently but it needs an expert to set it correctly. However, it still runs good and starts easily with good power. It has a 4:11 locker differential with a rear mono-lead setup and traction bars. Power steering. New items include: fuel tank, water pump, aluminum radiator (runs cool), coolant catch can, fuel filter, Flowmaster (I think) exhaust with dumps, shocks, master cylinder.
INTERIOR - new carpet kit, new headliner, new door and quarter panels, new sail panels, older style racing bucket seats and rear bench seat were recovered, new heater core (not hooked up). Window cranks and door handles work properly and dash lights work.
BODY - this car came from southern Arkansas where it appeared to have lived most if not all of its life. Although it was an overall solid car, it still had the typical areas to be addressed. It has a driver quality paint job with straight body panels and a 6-7 out of 10 finish (in my opinion). Finished in the correct Code 26 Mulsanne Blue paint which was original to the car. Rust over the rear fender wells was repaired with panels, floorboard was repaired with patch panels and one area in the trunk was repaired with a patch panel, new rear bumper, new windshield, new door and quarter glass felts, new inner fender splash aprons, new door and trunk seals. There is some 'pimpling' on the hood and some slight bubbling near the front of the passenger drip rail as shown in pics. Overall presents well with minor blemishes.
MISCELLANEOUS - Rally wheels with brand new rear tires and the front tires have very little wear with extremely low miles, Sunpro tachometer, fuel gauge works.
IDIOSYNCRASIES - every car has them and I'll do my best to list them all to prevent any surprises: the under dash gauges are cheap, the temperature gauge works correctly but the oil pressure gauge does not and the amp gauge is not hooked up, the speedometer is overstated due to the transmission speedo gear and differential, the engine will drop a bit of oil and the transmission had a leak which appears to have been repaired with a recent fix, the transmission dipstick is not the correct one and has been cut to work (I believe it was off a truck with a bigger pan), the seats should have been recovered in a thicker material in my opinion - this doesn't affect anything just not the most durable material available, there are three noticeable cracks and a dime-size flake in the original dash pad, the trunk leaks and it is unclear if it is coming from the seal, the glass or a pinhole near the glass, the wiper motor wiring harness is missing, all lights work except three marker lights which have wiring in place so might just need bulbs, the starter bendix misses occasionally but will be repaired if it continues to get worse before auction end, manual drum brakes work like they should and stop well but are still old technology and finally the mileage is likely not correct and has probably rolled over.
This is a very kool cruiser that is quick, gets looks wherever I drive it and has always performed well on cruises. I have done my best to describe the good and the bad but please keep in mind this is a 45 year old vehicle so feel free to ask any specific questions you might have or if you feel I missed anything. For sale locally and the right is reserved to end the auction early.
Thanks for looking!!!
