1931 Chevrolet Coach 2 door, original only once
VIN 21AE55411, Body Tag - Job 31551, Body J21656, Trim 1, Paint 66, (still has original VIN plate on passenger side rear floor)
Optional dual fender front tire mounts, with rear luggage rack. Has 6 cyl eng., updraft carburetor, 3 speed.
Very rare barn find in this condition, appears to be a never restored, only maintained, original survivor that runs and drives reliably and can be enjoyed as is. Every touch of well earned patina is part of it's story.
Oil change sticker in door jamb shows 74,880 and 11/27/1948. All fluids changed last year. Odometer now shows 90,142 but is not working due to a broken cable.
Body wood seems to be excellent. Doors shut tight,do not sag, and hinges are not loose. All windows roll up/down smoothly. The windshield has a small piece of glass attached on the inside of the drivers side which I was told works as a primitive defroster. The windshield still rolls up/ down.
Pull the choke out about half way and the engine always starts on the second or third try, even after sitting for a month. Engine runs smooth, does not smoke and sounds like a solid lifter early Chevy 6 should. Has a Wizard brand (Western Auto) generator cutout. The original ignition switch functions as it should except the key is worn badly requiring jiggling to turn the switch, therefore I have a temporary ignition switch under the dash without cutting the original wiring. The brake lights do not work. The headlights and tailight were working but have recently quit (maybe a loose ground). The speedometer cable is broken.
Steering and suspension is tight.
I have driven on many short rides and several 60 mile trips at speeds up to 40 mph. Right front brake grabs when the car sits for a few weeks. After a half dozen stops, the brakes operate smoothly. The emergency brake works properly.
The cooling system appears very clean and never overheats even on 95 degree summer days. The original upholstery, while showing wear, is usable. I sit on a towel to protect the seat bottom from additional wear. Has a pull down shade for the back window.
I have the Chevrolet emblem in good condition that goes on the top of the grill shell. Also have the engine hand crank.
