Before you email me and tell me they didn't make a Nomad in 1958 Google it. They made them ... not many ... but they are a true Nomad.
Mechanical:This Nomad is 283 V8 car with a 3 speed manual transmission, I have no idea of the condition of the motor ortransmissionas I have made noattemptsto start it. If I had gone forward with the restoration this is not the engine I would have chosen. The car rolls and steers and that is really all I can tell you about the mechanical condition except that everything is there and complete except the radiator.
Interior:The interior is complete including seats, door panels, and chrome trim. The front seat needs the fabric section on the lower cushion replaced but the rest of the seat is decent, the rear seat is in decent shape. The dash is complete with all trim and emblems it has not been drilled or cut out. The door panel trim is all in place and complete.
Body:This is a factory clay coral and white car. There are no cracks in the glass including the windshield, the side windows and tail gate open and close as they should. The body is very good for the age of the car. Outside of surface rust the front end is rust free, anything that looks like a rust spot in the pictures is only paint chips. The rear 1/4s are very good with some rust bubbles just starting to show ahead of the rear wheel on the drivers side. There is bubbling on the rocker panels. The car has dents and bumps as seen in the pictures and dents on the roof that do not show in the pictures. There is a small spot of rust in the spare tire well but it is not serious and all four foot panels on the floors need to be replaced.All of the chrome that has been removed comes with the car including the Nomad tailgate bars, the wide roof trim, the front fender gill inserts and the Nomad emblems. I went over the parts stored in the back of the car and as far as I can tell the only missing parts are: the radiator, the hood trim that goes on the lower edge, 1 front fender gun sight and 2 hubcaps. The tires are dry and do not hold air for more than a few minutes but I will replace them with roller tires for shipping.
Overall:This car is very rare, built at the LA plant and shipped to Canada where it lived its life in a small mountian town. When I bought the car it had been sitting in a farm shed for almost 40 years. The previous owner parked the car then decided to restore it, he removed the chrome and placed it in the rear of the car and that is as far as he got. When he passed I was able to buy the car with plans of making a surfer wagon out of it. For me it was the perfect car for a rat rod, it is extreamly rare, has great patina and being a standard, converting it a 348/4 speed would be simple. I got as far as buying a 348 and the 4 speed (not included in the sale) but other car projects have eaten up my time and it is not likely that I will get to this car any time soon.
Just about every part for this car is reproduced so restoration is straight forward. This car needs work, but is an excellent starting point. 1958 Nomads are far rarer than their 55-57 brothers and are the last of the Bel/Air based Nomads. All 58 Chevys are sky rocketing in value and the Nomads are the rarest, so if your looking to get into a 58 that is super cool and affordable that you can build your way, then this my be the car for you. Location and Shipping:The car is located in British Columbia Canada about five hours from the Washington border. If a US buyer buys this car I will help with arranging shipping and with the paperwork as I am very familiar with the process. If you are looking for a quote on shipping this takes some time and I will only do this for the winning bidder, however, I can ship the the car to the border at Blaine Washington for 400.00 and you can arrange the rest or pick it up there. There is a no duty on this car if it is imported to the US. I can store the car until spring at no charge but payment must be made as stated below.
Payment:I make no exceptions on payment, it is due in full within 5 days of the end of the auction by paying cash in person or by bank wire transfer or e-transfer. No money orders or any other methods will be accepted. I find this is the safest way for both the buyer and me as there is a complete bank record of the transaction.
