1985 Cadillac Eldorado ETC Additional Info:

1985 Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe: My inspiration for this car was the 1981 movie Thief with James Caan. I always loved that movie and the Eldorado that he drove in the movie. I believe this is probably the rarest of the Eldorado's that were built with only 585 built compared to 2300 convertibles built that year. .Highly optioned car with super rare Bose stereo system. This originally was a black with tan interior car. There was a lot of attention to detail in this restoration. I have about $15,000 into the restoration and that doesn't include the hundreds of hours of my time that went into the restoration. You don't see many 79-85 Eldorado's that have been restored. I decided to change it over to a black interior car making it the only black on black Eldorado Touring Coupe in the world. This is a 3 owner car and very original .All parts that were replaced were NOS or excellent original used parts. Reproduction parts for the cars don't really exist so you don't have many options. I have owned this car for almost 4 years now and it took me 3 years to accumulate all the correct parts. It was in Oklahoma it's whole life and it must have been in a arid region since the entire frame was covered in a fine dust which protected the metal for 30 years. The car was 100% rust free which is unusual for these cars since rust can be a problem. I did a full restoration about 11 months ago and the car has only been driven a few hundred miles since the completion. It took( 3) Eldorado Touring coupes and (2) Eldorado Base models to complete this one car.I found it very hard to find a near mint black interior and the plastic rocker panels and center console are very hard to find in nice condition, I have a photobucket link with lots of pictures of the restoration process. I have another 60 photos at photobucket, I can send the link. The car had 1 repaint when I got it, and was in need of a new paint job so I removed all the trim and bumper extension.I then had a paintless dent man remove all the dents he could.I stripped the car to the bare metal and there was only the factory body putty and absolutely no rust. I then had to do some minor putty work to get the car looking like new. I then block sanded and primed 3 times using epoxy primer. I sent it to the paint shop where they primed and sanded again and then put a sealer coat on.Then black with clear coat. The paint job looks really incredibly.
I have compiled a huge list of NOS parts that were used in the restoration I am sure there is something I missed but here it goes: Rear tail lights, all emblems including, hood, upper quarter panel, trunk key, trunk emblem, front grill, stainless steel trim on front hood, stainless trim on top of front bumper, rear license plate backup lights, all bumper fillers were NOS and not reproduction they cost almost $1000 for the complete car very hard to find.wheel center caps, air filter, lots of vacuum switches and engine parts. Too much to list. I have receipts for all parts that I bought it's a large stack of papers.I have compiled a list of all mechanical parts that was replaced with new parts some NOS some aftermarket:.Exhaust from exhaust manifolds back, Walker brand, tail pipe/muffler is NOS GM. Hangers are all original too car and rubber was replaced on the hangers. Both motor mounts and transmission mounts were replaced.New fuel pump. all rubber fuel lines were replaced.New gas tank insulators were installed. Front shocks new GM, rear air shocks were GM nos units, hard to find. Front end was totally rebuilt. All Moog or GM components. Upper and lower Contol arm bushings,,control arm bolts, upper & lower ball joints, tie rods, steering shock, pitman arm, steering box new,all front rear sway bar bushing,All brake parts were replaced front and rear. Rotors, brake calipers, brake pads, hoses, everything painted and detailed.New master cylinder and brake booster. Now the engine: the car has a GM replacement block that the previous owner had done at Cadillac dealer in Oklahoma. It has about 40k miles on the block. I replaced the intake manifold gaskets, exhaust gaskets, nos fuel pressure regulator, both fuel injectors replaced, spark plugs, synthetic oil change, nos wires, rebuilt distributor, water pump,alternator,a/c compressor, nos accumulator, nos condenser, original radiator re-cored using correct copper core. All new radiator hoses and heater hoses and new heater core. New battery.New hood insulator, new windshield washer pump, new power steering pump, air pum, all new belts. Transmission I don't know that much abou, it shifts fine so I never did anything to it other than new filter and fluid. Interior is totally redone, New suede like material used on headliner, new carpet, door panels and dash pad are near mint, back seats are original but I sprayed them with vinyl dye to save some money plus they were in excellent condition. Front seats were badly cracked and I had them re-upholstered costing almost $900 for the pair. Car has a new Kenwood CD player and the speakers are the original Bose that came with the car. I also have the correct Delco cassette player for this car but I think it needs to be rebuilt. Glass is all original and correct for the car.Chrome and stainless trim are original to the car and looks like new. it was just polished and re-installed. Windshield has a small 2" crack that hasn't gotten worse in the past 3 years,I kept it since it has the correct date codes . I have a correct NOS windshield that will be included in the sale . Rims were refinished at wheel collision center in Bat, PA, nos center caps and new BF Goodrich tires were installed. I am sure I missed something but if you have any question just send me an email. I never though I would sell the car but I need to pay some bills.
HERE IS SOME FUN FACTS ABOUT THE CAR: In 1982, Cadillac released a surprising new model of the Eldorado aimed towards the enthusiast..it was known as the Touring Coupe. The TC was available only in Teutonic Silver that year and was distinctly different from the other Eldorados. Firstly, there was no hood ornnament but a cloisonne medallion in its place. No vinyl roof was available..either were whitewalls, and most of the brightwork was body colored or blacked out. Ribbed rocker mouldings replace aluminum trim found on the other Eldos and the standard steel rim and hubcap were replaced by aluminum wheels with W&C centers. The interior of the TC offers sandalwood colored leather bucket seats featuring lumbar and lateral support with a center console instead of split bench seating. The real difference lies under the body- touring suspension featured larger stabilizer bars front and rear (32mm & 26mm), 20% stiffer front torsion bars, rear coil springs that were 15% firmer, entirely different shocks up front, and recalibrated air lift shocks in the rear. The suspension grommets were of 70 durometer rubber over the 60 dm on the standard Eldo. The steering system offered more feedback while keeping a 14:1 ratio and the tires were upgraded to P225/70R15 for increased handling. This TC package listed for an extra $1950 on top oel is pretty rare. As the production figures show, there were only 585 TC's made in '85 out of 76,401 Eldos. In fact, according to these figures, I should expect to see 4 of the $30,000 Eldorado convertibles for every one TC I see, but I don't. Touring Coupe Production Figures Model Year 1982 1983 1984 1985 ETC Production 170, 119, 815, 585 Total Eldos 52,01, 67,416, 77,80, 76,401
