1960 CADILLAC 6 WINDOW SEDAN, 80699 ORIGINAL MILES, ORIGINAL, UNRESTORED CAR.
A friend of mine bought this cool Cadillac around 50 years ago in Colorado, drove it to Southern Arizona and it has been there with him until last year when I managed to buy the car from him and I brought it to Phoenix. The Cadillac has 80.699 original miles on it, most put on the car during it's first 10 years and very few miles added during the last 50 years.
The body has small amount of rust only in a few places, the rest of the sheet metal is excellent including the floor, trunk floor, frame and underneath. The rust is at the very bottom of the front fenders (where all GM cars of that era rust, even here in Arizona), very little in the rocker panels, see pictures and behind the rear wheels at the very bottom of the quarter panels. The doors, deck lid, hood, floors, the rest of the front fenders and the rest of the quarters is all rust free except of course for surface rust where the Arizona sun has burnt off the paint. The patina is fantastic, I personally would never paint the car!
The body is dead straight, front to back. The chrome is so nice it would be difficult to find a 1960 Cadillac with better original chrome. The only pitted exterior chrome is the thin pot metal strip on the very back of the deck lid.
Since buying the Cadillac I have spent a lot of time and money going through it and doing things needed on a car that sat for years.
-I started with pulling the valve covers and lubed the lifters and rocker arms and made sure they were moving freely and I lubed the cylinders also. Not really needed here in hot and dry Arizona but it does not hurt to be thorough.-After that I serviced the engine with fresh oil and filter and started the engine.-The carburetor went to the premier carb builder in Phoenix for a full rebuild.-New water pump, heater hoses and new thermostat were installed.-New fuel pump and filter plus fuel hoses installed-The radiator was flushed and new radiator hoses installed.-New battery-The fuel tank was removed and sent to a radiator shop who boiled it out in their wat and installed again, all fuel lines were blown out.-The brake system was redone including new wheel cylinders, master cylinder, brake hoses etc.-4 new www radial tires were installed-New custom made dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers was made and installed, a $1300 job.-All 4 door panels were removed and the PW and door locks were cleaned and greased and they all work.-A new interior was made and installed, starting with seats stripped to the springs and high quality foam used. New headliner, new carpet, new kick panels, new package tray, new wind lace, redone sun visors. The door panels were so nice that only one or two needed new carpet at the bottom. The driver side front door needed a new armrest cover, they made one but the arm rest itself went missing so the left front door needs the short armrest base.-I replaced 2 cracked windows and all glass is good now.-I went through the electric and made sure all lights work-The front end was lubed and the wheel bearings repacked.I am sure I forget a lot more work that was done, many, many hours was spent on the car.
At this point the Cadillac runs and drives, it starts as soon as you turn the key. It has great brakes, it shifts fine and steers fine.A friend took it on the freeway the other day, probably the first time in 50 years.I did notice when putting in reverse recently that the carrier bearing for the drive shaft is getting worn and it will probably have to be replaced at some point.
After the Cadillac came back from the upholsterers some smaller trim pieces still needs to be installed, the trim on the side of the seat for example. It is there but not installed.
The P-seat mechanism was serviced and worked also but the cables under the seat are not installed right now, they are with the car though. I did not want the upholsterers to break them, the plastic ends break so easily so I removed them from the seat before they started working on the interior.
The Cadillac is so original, even the lenses front and rear are the ones that has been on the car for many years and probably since new. It was missing the hubcaps when I bought it and I got a set of 1959 Cadillac hubcaps for the car. I'm in the car over $16.000 but I just moved out of the shop I have had for almost 40 years and can't keep the car, there's too many projects still and no good space for me to work right now so my reserve is a lot less than what I have put into the car.
It is sold with a clear Arizona title.
I can arrange for transport to port in Los Angeles in case the car is being sold out of the country.
