As Cadillac transitioned into the 1980's, fuel economy was still a high priority to meet with newly enacted CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards. Particularly after the gas crunch of the mid-1970's oil embargo. Cars needed to shed weight, have more economical engines, and provide greater fuel efficiency. The massive, big block displacement engines were long gone and replaced by an assortment of options to include a V6, a diesel V8, or a Digital Fuel Injection V8 as options under the hood. The upscale Fleetwood Eldorado Coupe would be offered for the final time in this tenth-generation design in 1985, and late in the production year Cadillac offered a "Commemorative Edition" to celebrate its departure with a limited edition run from select Cadillac dealerships. They were offered in either Cotillion White or Commodore Blue exteriors, with a choice or Dark Blue or White Leather, or a combination of both on the interior. Very few were offered due to their late option RPO from the Cadillac executive office, so today they are wonderful collector cars from a terrific design era when comfort and drivability were in perfect harmony!
