In 1975, Cadillac announced that the 1976 Eldorado was going to be the only GM car offered as a convertible and it was to be the last of a breed. Buyers flocked to the Cadillac showrooms to get their orders in and have a chance to own the LAST Cadillac convertible that GM planned to build. Some people ordered the car and drove it like a regular car and some people ordered one or two and put them away as an investment hoping to someday sell their Cadillac treasure at some time in the future.
This particular car was one of the ones that was put away for many many years and not driven very much. In the years since 1976 this car has only traveled 2183 miles. It still has the state inspection sticker on it from 1985 showing 1669 miles! The original owner died about 10 years ago and the 2nd owner continued to store the car until last year when he decided to sell it. I am a collector of low mileage Cadillacs and other cars and I purchased the car and had it shipped to me in Pennsylvania. When I received the car we had to do some work to the car to be able to drive it with complete confidence. That's the way I like my cars.
To someone that is familiar with low mileage original Cadillacs there are many ways to tell that this car is the real deal. Condition of the carpets and seats, condition of interior dash chrome which is plastic chrome and wears off with normal to higher mileage. Condition of the pedals and the weatherstripping. The interior of the trunk. Everything on this car is the way you would expect a low mileage car to be. The biggest "tell" that this is a low mileage car is the condition of the steering wheel. The wood inlay on the Cadillac steering wheels was always very fragile and always cracks and falls out of the steering wheel. That is why so many Cadillac have leather or vinyl steering wheel wraps on them. Look at the photo of the steering wheel. It is absolutely mint. A sure sign of a low mileage car.
The car starts right up and idles very smoothly. Floats down the road like it should. It is just a fantastic car to drive.
Feel free to contact me if you have a serious interest in the car. I do not want to take any trades and silly low offers will be immediately rejected. I am not holding out for the absolute highest price and want to sell the car at what I feel is a fair price for me and for you.
I am very familiar with what I refer to as Big Eldo's and knew that we were going to have to go over the car from front to back. The following is a list of what has recently been done to the car:
