1972 Cadillac Calais 472 V8 2 Door Hardtop with 16K orig miles Additional Info:
West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional and rust free example of this rare low production (3,900 in 1972 compared to 95,280 for the DeVille!) 1972 year of production of this mostly all original 1972 Cadillac Calais 2 Door Hardtop Coupe with all it's original factory specifications intact including it's original 'Twany Beige' factory color (code 64) paint matched to its all original and matching 'Medium Beige' cloth interior (trim code 242) & its original 472 c.i. 4BBL 345 HP V8 engine with 16K original miles! It is loaded with factory options including climate control air conditioning ( a $537 option in 1972), power steering, power front disc brakes, power windows, power 6 way front seat ($118 option), soft-ray tinted glass ($59 option), cloth and vinyl seats with front center armrests, rear fender skirts, left side remote control outside rear view mirror, three speed windshield wipers and washers, front cornering lamps and radio ($188 option). All these options are still intact and working including the air conditioning which was recently fully serviced and blows ice cold!
The 1965-76 Cadillac Calais is considered by enthusiasts as quite a desirable Cadillac due to it's low production and a virtually identical model to the slightly better equipped De Ville model which only cost a little more, (although this particular example is obviously as suitably equipped as any DeVille with all the desirable factory options and which boasts the high grade vinyl and cloth interior as used on the top-of-the-line Buicks and Oldsmobiles!)
For 1971, all Cadillac models, including the Calais were completely restyled, inside and out and were to set a record for interior width that would not be matched by any car until the full-size GM rear-wheel drive models of the early to mid-1990s. Pairs of individually housed round headlamps were wider apart, with a winged Cadillac crest set between each pair. The V-shaped grille had an eggcrate style insert and was protected by massive vertical guards framing a rectangular license plate indentation. A wide hood and recessed windshield wipers was used. The rear wheel openings were again covered by fender skirts. Long horizontal back-up lamps were set in the bumper, on either side of a deeply recessed license plate housing. The Calais wheelbase was extended to 130 inches and interiors were redesigned featuring a new curved instrument panel available with brushed aluminum trim. Revised seating areas featured either standard cloth or optional vinyl upholstery. In 1972, a minor facelift placed more emphasis on horizontal grille blades. The parking lamps were moved from the bumper to between the square bezeled headlamps, which were now set wider apart. In 1973 the new energy absorbing bumpers were seen on all GM cars.
This particular example is the last year of the attractive and smaller chrome bumpers and has spent most of its life in sunny California and has obviously always been garaged from the elements! The car has no evidence or history of any accidents or damage and has it's original factory color paint with its highly striking and also all original 'Light Flax Decameron Cloth and Vinyl' bench seat interior still in absolutely beautiful original condition throughout! The car is a perfect addition to any Cadillac collector's collection or simply a fantastic example of this icon of American engineering when owning a Cadillac had become a symbol of financial success and achievement and cost more than the Oldsmobile 98 or Buick Electra 225 and more than the top-of-the-line Buick Riviera!
The car drives almost like it must have when it left the factory floor over 50 years ago - obviously always well maintained and garage kept since new considering it's lovely condition and completely rust free body with no sun damage! The car looks very striking in its original factory color paint and the original engine is extremely strong and powerful with a reported 16K original miles and judging by how this particular car drives and looks, we believe it - must be driven and seen to be fully appreciated - drives straight as an arrow with no strange road wobbles, shakes or rattles! The car also has it's original Cadillac radio.
This is a great opportunity to own a rare and unabused example of an obviously always garaged 1972 Cadillac Calais 2 Door Hardtop Coupe with absolutely no signs of any rust or any accidents. This is a very rare example of one of the most desirable years of production of this decades 472 big block Cadillac and a great investment that's sure to appreciate over the years for any American classic car collector of obviously any Cadillac enthusiast!
